As you know, the plans that I saw contained little detail, but I was favorably impressed by the manner in which the architects had "borrowed" important design elements, including roof pitch and window proportions, from nearby historic houses. The architects appear to have a good understanding of the need for the new buildings to be compatible with their historic neighbors without being exact copies. I also feel that the architects' proposal to locate parking between the buildings, rather than behind them (as typically is preferred in the historic district), probably represents the best solution for this particular site, which is highly visible from the interstate. Assuming the details of the design of the apartment buildings are worked out to the satisfaction of the Historic District Commission, I believe the Quapaw Quarter Association would support the proposed apartment construction at Fifteenth Street and Park Lane.
