Dana, John Twyford and Muriel - see #4 and #5 for scheduling dates please SoMa "endorsed" concert at our loft was a great success last night. Michael, Gerald and Muriel attended from Board. Think we got a very positive PR message to the room -full of people (@70) that SoMa is a "coming place for the arts". So now I can concentrate on the several things the board asked me to do last week, as well as communicate some follow up information to absent board members: 1. A unanimous vote of SoMa Board quorum to send a letter to the city registering our "disappointment" in the recent vote to decline Page Wilson's project on 15th and Rock. This vote was by the MacArthur Park Historic District Commission. Our board members asked me to send a draft of the letter around for all to read and comment on the wording. The letter was voted to send so that will happen - we are simplly asking you to review the text. Here it is: To City manager Bruce Moore, with copies to City Planning Director Tony Bozyinski and members of the Mac Park Hist Dist Commission. (on our SoMa letterhead ) By a unanimous vote of the Southside Main Street (SoMa) Board of directors at its regular meeting of May 12, 2009, I, as president of the board, was asked to register the board's disappointment in the MacArthur Park Historic District Commission's vote to decline the two housing units proposed by Page Wilson for the corner of 15th and Rock Streets. Without considering the appearance of irregularities in the hearing process as reported by me to the board, the board wants you to know that it supports - economic development in the Soma residential areas; - diverse and high -quality architectural design for this particular area in the residential neighborhood of downtown (which matches the goals as stated in the Soma Vision Plan); and residential projects for this land area where the original neighborhood's historic building fabric has been destroyed, leaving so much open land for development. If a rehearing is scheduled for a future time, our board would like to be notified so it can attend and officially support the project. Thank you. 5/20/2009 Page 2 of 2 -1 Sincerely, george Wittenberg SoMa Board president 2. That a policy will exist which simply put asks each board member who is promoting or having fund raisers for special SoMa-related projects to please notify the board by e mail or in any board a/o committee meetings of their intentions. Mainly this is to inform the board of the "going-ons" and invitations to attend SoMa named events. Dana and George's (mine) efforts to raise money (Dana for Mardi Gras) George's (concert to build awareness) should have more advanced notice to the board. 3. Need a meeting to finalize recent efforts to organize the finances - so when to meet soon at the office? Dana, George and John Twyford (Muriel will be gone) - John you start because your schedule controls just now?e mail some dates and times please 4. Muriel - lets us meet Monday (tomorrow) to give me an overview before you depart! 5. general: need to think about board member attendance (you know who you are). Board decided to review any 3 missed attendances in a row in accordance with the bylaws, which gives the board the right to review the circumstances for the misses of the member. Meaning there is no automatic 3 miss means one is off the board.(will be in the minutes) AND please submit names to me for new board members -need 2 to fill existing slots and several to fill terms expiring at end of 2009. 6. Trish and Scott - reminder to include the minutes of the Annual meeting in the notes somewhere (maybe this has been done) WHEW!
