6"-16" Round Columns
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Columns, caps & bases must be stored in a dry area. Never lay them on the ground or put
them in a damp basement or hot attic. Before priming, be sure that factory applied preservative
is dry (pine columns only). Apply quality grade oil base primerto all surfaces of column, cap and base
prior to assembly or exposure to the elements. Apply one coat asphaltum four feet up the in-
side of column shaft from the bottom. Prime ends of column shaft after trimming to length. Apply
caulking compound at point where column shaft meets cap & base. Column must have metal
plinth separating wood base from masonry surface. Install to allow free air circulation through
base, column and cap. A ventilation diagram is attached to each column before it leaves our plant.
Apply flashing or caulking as required at top of cap to prevent rain from entering column shaft,
yet allowing ventilation openings for air circulation. After installation column, cap and base must
receive two coats of quality oil base paint.
