ROOFING
No more than two layers of roofing are allowed, except that there can be two composition roofs over a wood shingle roof. If two
layers are presently on a house, it most be stripped down to the decking before installing new roofing. Rotted decking, damaged or
rotted roofjacks are to be replaced. Decking material must be C-D grade exterior plywood or better overlaid with 15' fe[t. Asphalt
shingles must be ssqquare butt three -tab syle, of uniform thickness, 12-1/4 inches by 36 inches, weighing at least 235 pounds per 100
square feet self�sealing with factory -applied adhesive, meeting Underwriter's iaboiatories, Inc. requirements for Class C wind -
resistant shingles. Fastening will be wRh nails: use four hot galvanized steel or aluminum sharp pointed conventional barbed shank
roofing nails (11 or 12 gauge) with at least 318" heads. Bails are to be of sufficient length to penetrate 314 . Drive nails straight,
heads mush with shingle surface. Do not drive nail heads into shingles. Fiberglass shingles are acceptable. Fiberglass shingles should
be installed according to the manufacturers recommendations (consult manufactures representative for installation procedures).
Fiberglass shingles will carry a 20 year warranty, a class "A°' fire resistant rating from the underwriters laboratory, and meet UIL
standards for wind resistance. Asphalt plastic cement must conform to Federal 5 pecification SS-C-l53C, Tyyppee 1, or latest version
thereof. Flashing shall be 26 gauge galvanized 1 x 2 metal. Composition (asphalt) shin es and fiberglass shingles will not be
installed on roofs with less than a 3 in 12 pitch. These roofs should have a built-up roollof 4 ply 15 (felt hot me aped aspbalt strip
coated with 300 of gravel per 100 square feet while hot. Wood shingles are not acceptable. Finished roof shall be free of splits,
cracks, broken shingles, and other defects, and shall be water and weather tight. Contractor will remove from property all roofingg
debris. Contractor will guarantee all roofing work performed for a period of 12 months as well as provide HUD with a copy of the
materials warranty provided by the manufacturer of the shingles. Roof will be replaced with similar materials whenever possible and
feasible.
