Subject: Comment on HDC application at 308 Daisy Bates
Dear Chairman Peters and Commissioners,
Ordinarily, the Quapaw Quarter Association would oppose the wholesale replacement
of siding and trim on a historic house. The best approach is to do as much repair and
as little replacement as possible; the wholesale replacement is wasteful, contributes to
the loss of historic integrity and sets an example that should not be followed for other
preservation projects. However, this seems to be an extraordinary situation and we
recommend approval of the application at 308 Daisy Bates. Replacement of the siding
with high quality matching materials is reasonable in this situation. The use of another
material such as vinyl or pine siding would not be appropriate and could compromise
the structural and historic integrity of the property.
Thank you for your time and service, please don't hesitate to contact the QQA if we can
be of assistance.
Sincerely,
Rhea Roberts
