Dear sir, I operate the Doublebees Exxon convenience store on 2402 Cantrell in Riverdale area. I currently
have 4 Bradford pears trees in front of our store, near the street. I need help in.getting them removed due to
impeding the view of my customers pulling out onto Cantrell. They are also grown into the electric or phone
lines. Attached pictures.
What would be the procedure in getting this removed (permits, etc.) and replanting another species of tree?
Thanks
Ed Light

twenty-five (25) drift roses and sixteen (16) bunny grass to achieve full coverage of the planting area. Upon final
inspection if plant material is found not to provide full coverage additional plant materials will be required.
Please have Russ designate on the plan the separate areas for bunny grass and drift roses. You may also ask him to
provide you with the quantities that will be needed based on the square footage of the areas.
Once this is accomplished please have him add the following notes.
"Mass planting of Bunny Grass 18" o.c."
"Mass planting of Drift Roses 2'-6" o.c."
"Plant material to be provided at the designated on center spacing to achieve full coverage of the mass planting areas."
If you have any questions or comments please let me know.

Mr. Spillman,
As I directed our Landscape company to proceed in getting me an estimate on this project, they discovered a
gas line that runs in the bedded area near the current trees. The gas line has been flagged, if you would like to
see.
The landscape company has advised me that it would be impossible to plant the Holly that we have in our
plan, due to gas line location and size of root. They advised me to contact you and ask for any suggestions on
something with much smaller root during planting process.

Mr. Light,
Below you will find a link to the Little Rock City Code and the recommended plant materials. However, a few things that
you should keep in mind when making a selection is the mature height, spread, and growth pattern. In addition the tree
should be kept limbed -up to a height of eight (8) feet above any pavement to allow for pedestrian and vehicular
movement as well as visibility. One possibility could be a Treeform Foster Holly. This is a smaller evergreen tree that is
easily maintained and would not reach a height that would interfere with any overhead utilities. Another option may be
a columnar maple. These are narrow deciduous trees and the limb structure grows close to the trunk which would
eliminate pedestrian or vehicular interference. Please keep in mind whatever your selection is these trees must be 3" in
caliper at installation.
The plan that you submit should be a scaled drawing, I would suggest a scale of 1"=20' or 1"=30'. This can be hand
sketched and hard copies will need to be delivered to my office. Included on this plan you should note the size and
location of the trees to be removed, a graphic representation of the proposed trees, height, spread, and caliper of the
proposed trees, a note of how these are to be watered, and the name of the project, scale of the drawing and north
arrow. This should cover everything however, upon review of the plan additional information could be required.

Mr. Light,
I have reviewed and measured the four (4) Bradford Pears at your business and found the following:
The eastern most tree is approximately 13.6" caliper
Moving westward the next tree is approximately 13.6" caliper
The next tree is approximately 12.7" caliper
The last western most tree is approximately 14.9" caliper.
If these trees are removed they will need to be replaced in accordance the Little Rock City Code, Sec. 15-52.
Preservation, protection and planting.
In summary for each 13"-18" caliper tree removed four (4) three (3) inch caliper trees will be required as replacements.
If the four (4) existing trees mentioned above are removed sixteen (16) new trees a minimum of three (3) inches in
caliper will be required to be planted. If this quantity exceeds the allowable planting space a contribution for the
remainder of the trees can be made to the T.R.E.E. Fund as per Little Rock City Code, Sec. 15-37. T.R.E.E fund. However,
in no case shall fewer trees with an average linear spacing of thirty (30) feet on center be planted between the vehicular
use area and the street right-of-way.
In addition it is advisable not to proceed with any changes until a landscape plan has been submitted to the City of Little
Rock, Plans and Development Administrator and has been approved.
Let me know if have any questions or comments at this time.

I have copied D. Tracy Spillman RSLA, our plans administrator on this. He will get with you. What you propose is possible.
Based on the caliper of the trees you propose to replace, you may need to add additional trees and/or make a
contribution to the TREE Fund if you cannot place the required number of trees on the site. First thing you will need is a
site plan indicating the location, type and caliper of the existing trees. Based on that, we can advise you what number of
trees you are responsible for installing. The new trees will have to be a minimum of three (3) inches in caliper.
