Home My WebLink About16789 1 RESOLUTION NO. 16,789 2 3 A RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO ACCEPT GRANT 4 FUNDS FROM THE NATIONAL EDUCATION ASSOCIATION 5 FOUNDATION, IN THE AMOUNT OF EIGHTY THOUSAND DOLLARS 6 ($80,000.00) TO SUPPORT THE CITY COMMUNITY SCHOOLS 7 INITIATIVE WITH THE LITTLE ROCK SCHOOL DISTRICT; AND FOR 8 OTHER PURPOSES. 9 10 WHEREAS,the City of Little Rock,Arkansas("City")and the Little Rock School District("LRSD") 11 have participated together in the Community Schools Initiative since September 2020; and, 12 WHEREAS, the City acknowledges that grant funds are available from the National Education 13 Association Foundation("NEAF")to support the City's Community Schools Initiative; and, 14 WHEREAS, the City has successfully applied for grant funds from the NEAF, and they are desirous 15 of awarding Two Hundred Thousand Dollars($200,000.00)to the City for this purpose; and, 16 WHEREAS, the City shall enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the LRSD for the Sub- 17 Award of grant funds from the NEAF in the amount of Eighty Thousand Dollars($80,000.00); and, 18 WHEREAS,the Board of Directors approval of this NEAF Grant is necessary because,while the City 19 is not putting money into the Grant,the City is guaranteeing that it will pay back Eighty Thousand Dollars 20 ($80,000.00)should the NEAF, in its sole discretion,determine that the money was not used properly;and, 21 NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY 22 OF LITTLE ROCK,ARKANSAS: 23 Section 1: The Board of authorizes the Mayor to accept grant funds from the NEAF to support the 24 City's Community Schools Initiative with the LRSD as follows: Eighty Thousand Dollars($80,000.00)for 25 a social worker at the Chicot Elementary School for the 2025-2026 school year. 26 Section 2. The Mayor and City Manager and any other necessary City employee are hereby authorized 27 and directed to execute any and all necessary agreement and other documents for the administration of the 28 Grant. 29 Section 4.Severability. In the event any title,section,paragraph,item,sentence,clause,phrase,or word 30 of this resolution is declared or adjusted to be invalid or unconstitutional, such declaration or adjudication 31 shall not affect the remaining portions of the resolution which shall remain in full force and effect as if the 32 portion so declared or adjusted invalid or unconstitutional were not originally a part of the resolution. 33 Section 5.Repealer. All laws, ordinances, resolutions, or parts of the same, that are inconsistent with 34 the provisions of this resolution, are hereby repealed to the extent of such inconsistency.
