No soils exploration has been provided by the Owner for the performance of the project. Contractor shall verify with local utilities existing underground utilities. 02110 SITE CLEARING A. Remove trees, shrubs, grass and other vegetation and obstructions interfering with the installation of the new construction. Also, remove elsewhere on the site shrubs, grass, other vegetation, existing pavement, structures and debris. 02200 EARTHWORK A. Standard Soils Classifications Groups shall be utilized. B. Excavate as required for footings and utilities. C. Provide a description of satisfactory fill and backfill material to be utilized during construction. D. Fill, back fill, drainage fill at construction, walkways and pavement shall be compacted to 95% of maximum dry density at optimum moisture content as per ASTM D-1557. E. Drainage fill shall be washed, even graded mixture of crushed stone and/or gravel approximately 1/2" and smaller. F. Provide rough, subgrade and finish grading to elevations for proper drainage- G. Contractor shall provide subgrade to within 1 and % inch of the finished concrete plazas and finished aggregate walks. H. Contractor shall install subgrade so as the finished topsoil and sod provided by others is level for approximately 3 feet on either side of the walks and all around the plazas before transitioning (sloping) to existing grade. 02400 TOPSOIL A. Strip existing top soil and stockpile during construction where possible. Replace existing top soil and fine grade around new construction addition. B. Top soil shall be provided by others in a thickness (1 and 'h inch thickness minimum) necessary for the growth of newly placed sod. 02010 - 1 SITEWORK DIVISION - 2 02485 SOD/SEEDING A. Fine grade lawn area to smooth even surface with loose and fine texture. B. Provide sod where work occurs and/or noted on the drawings. At walks, provide sod from where work occurs to walks. At plazas, provide sod from work to within 5 feet of the perimeter of plaza slabs. Provide metal edging at a 5 foot perimeter around a plaza slabs. C. Provide straw coverage to protect the sodded and seeded areas of the disturbed soils.. D. Installation of topsoil and sod, applied to a 5 foot perimeter around paved surfaces. Transition slope from level ground to existing grade shall consist of a smooth transition. Provide topsoil to a 6" depth in unsodded area (planting bed) to within'/2" of plaza slab surface. E. Water all sod and seeds adequately as per the air temperature and related existing conditions. 02500 LANDSCAPING A. Protect from excavation and construction existing trees and shrubs to remain on site. B. Install materials as necessary and as noted on the drawings, metal edging for planting beds to 5 foot perimeter of plazas. C. Landscape materials as noted on the drawings, at planting beds, mulch, shrubs and trees by Owner. D. Shrub plantings and trees shall be provided by others. Shrub plantings and trees shall be installed with mulch, securely anchored as needed. 02510 PAVEMENTS AND WALKS A. Provide concrete spread footings and 6 inch thick slabs at plazas, 3,000 lbs. concrete at 28 days with 6 X 6 - 10/10 WWF (welded fire fabric). Dimensions as noted on the drawings. B. Metal edging at aggregate walks. Align metal edging straight and true, anchor securely. Install aggregate carefully and compact and in two lifts. Readjust and align as needed as aggregate is installed and compacted to assure edging is unaffected. C. Aggregate Walks. Aggregate shall be maximum 1/2 inch in diameter to 1/4 inch or smaller. Aggregate to be compacted in 2 lifts, minimum compacted depth to 5 inch approximately. Color to be reddish to brownish hue. Final selection of color to be by Owner. 02010 - 2 SITEWORK 02600 SITE UTILITIES DIVISION - 2 A. Locate utilities at construction site to prevent the interruption of services. Connect to electrical service by others extended to within approximately 20 feet of the construction work. Repair disturbed easements as per local codes and ordinances. All work under this contract shall comply with the latest published codes and recommendations of the American Concrete Institute. 03200 CONCRETE REINFORCEMENT A. Welded wire fabric shall comply with ASTM A185. Provide 6 x 6 10/10 WWF in slab on grade, paved areas and drives. B. Embed the welded wire fabric into the top 2 inches of the concrete slab, either lift the wire into the concrete and/or place the welded wire on chairs or utilize other approved methods. 03300 CAST -IN PLACE CONCRETE A. General concrete mix design shall be 3,000 psi minimum at 28 days. B. Slab on grade surfaces shall be 6 inch thick at plaza slabs, dimensions as noted or necessary elsewhere, 3,000 psi minimum at 28 days. C. Construct forms to size, shape and dimensions for proper features of the work. D. Construct forms block outs to the size, shape and dimensions of brick paver in -lays. See the drawings for size. E. Concrete drives on grade surfaces shall be 6 inch thick minimum, review dimensions as noted or necessary elsewhere, 3,000 psi minimum at 28 days. F. Provide air entrainment for all exterior concrete. 03350 CONCRETE FINISHES A. Below Grade: As cast. B. Slab on Grade Surfaces: Float. Screed and float with medium broom finish. (Surface must not be slippery or slick.) C. Colored Slab on Grade Surfaces: Screed and float with medium broom finish. (Surface must not be slippery or slick.) Standard concrete color as placed. Apply colored finish to concrete surfaces as indicated on the drawings and as per manufacturer's recommendations. D. Curing: Protect curing concrete with approved methods. 03100 — 1 CONCRETE DIVISION - 3 E. Provide scoring of the concrete surface, 1/2" deep cuts with diamond saw blade to assist in controlling cracking of the concrete, as necessary. F. This Section includes the following: Single -component, polyurethane waterproofing for coating reflecting pools and fountain elements where indicated. C. Division 3 Section "Cast -In -Place Concrete" for reflecting pools. 1.3 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS A. Provide waterproofing membrane that prevents the passage of water. 1.4 SUBMITTALS A. Product Data: Include manufacturer's written instructions for evaluating, preparing, and treating substrate, technical data, and tested physical and performance properties of waterproofing. B. Shop Drawings: Show locations and extent of waterproofing. Include details for substrate joints and cracks, sheet flashings, penetrations, inside and outside corners, tie-ins with adjoining waterproofing, and other termination conditions. C. Samples: For the following products: 1 2-by-1 2-inch square of flashing sheet. D. Installer Certificates: Signed by manufacturers certifying that installers comply with requirements. E. Product Test Reports: From a qualified independent testing agency indicating and interpreting test results of waterproofing for compliance with requirements, based on comprehensive testing of current waterproofing formulations. F. Sample Warranty: Copy of special waterproofing manufacturer's warranty stating obligations, remedies, limitations, and exclusions before starting waterproofing. 1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Installer Qualifications: A qualified installer who is licensed by waterproofing manufacturer to install manufacturer's products. B. Source Limitations: Obtain waterproofing materials through one source from a single manufacturer. C. Preinstallation Conference: Contact Owner to conduct an on -site review of installation. Review requirements for waterproofing, including surface preparation specified under other Sections, substrate condition and pretreatment, minimum curing period, forecasted weather conditions, special details and sheet flashings, installation procedures, testing and inspection procedures, and protection and repairs. 07141 FOUNTAIN WATERPROOFING Dated June 3, 2010 1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Deliver liquid materials to Project site in original containers with seals unbroken, labeled with manufacturer's name, product brand name and type, date of manufacture, shelf life, and directions for storing and mixing with -other components. B. Store liquid materials in their original undamaged containers in a clean, dry, protected location and within the temperature range required by waterproofing manufacturer. C. Remove and replace liquid materials that cannot be applied within their stated shelf life. D. Protect stored materials from direct sunlight. 1.7 PROJECT CONDITIONS A. Environmental Limitations: Apply waterproofing within the range of ambient and substrate temperatures recommended by waterproofing manufacturer. Do not apply waterproofing to a damp or wet substrate, when relative humidity exceeds 85 percent, or when temperatures are less than 5 deg F above dew point. 1. Do not apply waterproofing in snow, rain, fog or mist, or when such weather conditions are imminent during application and curing period. B. Maintain adequate ventilation during application and curing of waterproofing materials. 1.8 WARRANTY A. Special Manufacturer's Warranty: Written warranty, signed by waterproofing manufacturer and Installer agreeing to repair or replace waterproofing that does not comply with requirements or that does not remain watertight within specified warranty period. 1. Warranty does not include failure of waterproofing due to failure of substrate prepared and treated according to requirements or formation of new joints and cracks in substrate that exceed 1/16 inch in width. 2. Warranty Period: Five years after date of Substantial Completion. PART2-PRODUCTS 2.1 MANUFACTURERS A. Available Products: Subject to compliance with requirements, products that may be incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Neogard, Div. of Jones -Blair; Pool — Gard 11. 2. Tremco, Inc.; Vulkem 450/351 2.2 WATERPROOFING MATERIALS A. General: Provide waterproofing materials recommended by manufacturer to be compatible with one another and able to develop bond to substrate under conditions of service and application, as demonstrated by waterproofing manufacturer based on testing and field experience. 1. Produce waterproofing materials suitable for application to vertical, horizontal, and sloped substrates, as applicable. 2. Provide waterproofing materials with not less than 90 percent solids. B. Cold Fluid -Applied Waterproofing: Comply with ASTM C 836, with manufacturer's written 07141 FOUNTAIN WATERPROOFING Dated June 3, 2010 physical requirements, and as follows: 1. Single -component, unmodified polyurethane waterproofing. 2.3 AUXILIARY MATERIALS A. Primer: Manufacturer's standard, factory -formulated polyurethane or epoxy primer. B. Sheet Flashing: 50-mil- minimum, nonstaining uncured sheet neoprene. Adhesive: Manufacturer's recommended contact adhesive. C. Reinforcing Strip: Manufacturer's recommended fiberglass mesh or polyester fabric. D. Joint Sealant: Multicomponent polyurethane sealant, compatible with waterproofing, complying with ASTM C 920 Type M, Class 25; Grade NS for sloping and vertical applications or Grade P for deck applications; Use NT exposure; and as recommended by manufacturer for substrate and joint conditions. Backer Rod: Closed -cell polyethylene foam. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 INSPECTION A. Concrete: Verify that the work done under other sections meets the following requirements:. 1. That the concrete deck surface is free of ridges and sharp projections. If metal forms or decks are used they should be ventilated to permit adequate drying of concrete on exterior exposed deck. 2. That the concrete was cured for a minimum of 28 days. (Minimum of 3,000 psi compressive strength). Water -cured treatment of concrete is preferred. The use of concrete curing agents, if any, shall be of the sodium silicate base only; others require written approval by manufacturer. 3. That the concrete was finished by a power or hand steel trowel followed by soft hair broom to obtain light texture or "sidewalk" finish. 4. That damaged areas of concrete deck be restored to match adjacent areas. Use 100% solids epoxy and sand for filling and leveling. 3.2 PREPARATION A. Cleaning: Surfaces contaminated with oil or grease shall be vigorously scrubbed with a power broom and a strong non-sudsing detergent. Thoroughly wash clean, and dry. Areas where oil or other contaminants penetrate deep into the concrete may require removal by mechanical methods. B. Etching: Treat concrete surfaces with 10% to 15% solution of muriatic acid to remove laitance and impurities. After acid has stopped foaming or boiling, immediately rinse thoroughly with water. Re -rinse as required to remove muriatic acid solution. Note: if acid etching is not_practical, shotblasting is an acceptable alternative. However. proper care and procedure should be taken to leave the concrete surface as unopened as possible. 07141 FOUNTAIN WATERPROOFING Dated June 3, 2010 C. Cracks and Cold Joints: Visible hairline cracks (up to 1/16" in width) in concrete and cold joints shall be cleaned, primed and treated with polyurethane deck coating material a minimum distance of 2" on each side of crack to yield a total thickness of 30 dry mils. Large cracks (over 1/16" in width) shall be routed and sealed with sealant approved by manufacturer. Sealant shall be applied to inside area of crack only, not applied to deck surface. Detail sealed cracks with polyurethane deck coating material a distance of 2" on each side of crack to yield a total thickness of 30 dry mils. D. Control Joints: Seal secondary control joints with sealant approved by manufacturer. Sealant shall be applied to inside area of joint only, not applied to deck surface. Detail sealed jointswith polyurethane deck coating material a distance of 2" on each side of joint to yield a total thickness of 30 dry mils. E. Sheet Flashing: install sheet flashing where indicated on the drawings prior to the application of base coats. F. Surface Condition: Surface shall be clean and dry prior to coating. 3.3 APPLICATION A. Primer: Apply primer at a minimum rate of 1/3 gallon per 100 square feet to all concrete surfaces. Within 24 hours of application of primer, base coat must be applied. If base coat cannot be applied within 24 hours, re -prime. B. Base Coat: Apply 1 gallon per 100 square feet of polyurethane coating material to deck surfaces to yield an average 12 dry mils in strict accordance with procedures outlined by manufacturer. Extend base coat over cracks and control joints which have received treatment. Supply base coat same day as prime coat. C. Second Base Coat: Apply 1 gallon per 100 square feet of polyurethane coating material to deck surfaces to yield an average 12 dry mils in strict accordance with procedures outlined by manufacturer. Vertical surfaces may require additional coats to build film to design thickness. D. Top Coat: Mix manufacturer's recommended chemical resistant polyurethane at a ratio of 2:1 for three minutes. Apply two coats at a rate of 280 square feet per gallon per coat to yield an average of 7 dry mils in strict accordance with procedures outlined by manufacturer total system coating thickness averages 31 dry mils. Vertical surfaces may require additional coats to build film to design thickness. dote. if more than 24 hours lapse between top coat applications, the first top coat must be sanded prior to second tap coat application. Repeat this stern for additional coats. E. 1. Top coat shall be colored black. 3.4 CURING, PROTECTING, AND CLEANING A. Do not permit foot or vehicular traffic on unprotected membrane. B. Protect waterproofing from damage and wear during remainder of construction period.
