DATE: 30 September 1998
SUBJECT: Permit for 1001 Cumberland
This memo serves as administrative approval from the Little Rock Historic District
Commission allowing the property owner of 1001 Cumberland (located within the
MacArthur Park Historic District) permission to obtain a building permit. I understand
that the permit is for the construction of a garage. This was approved by the LRHDC
on 20 February 1997; a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) was issued for its
construction (a copy of which is attached). As such, and meeting all city, building and
health regulations, the application for a building permit should be approved.

FOUNDATION NOTES
1. ARRANGEMENT AND BENDING OF REINFORCING STEEL SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE
WITH ACI DETAILING MANUAL, LATEST EDITION.
2. REINFORCING STEEL SHALL BE NEW AND ALL BARS OVER #2 SHALL BE DEFORMED.
3. WHERE REINFORCING BARS ARE SHOWN CONTINUOUS, LAP BARS 36-BAR DIMENSIONS
OR 24-BAR DIAMETERS AT TENSION OR COMPRESSION SPLICES RESPECTIVELY (12" MINIMUM).
4. PROVIDE SUITABLE WIRE SPACERS, CHAIRS, TIES, ETC., FOR SUPPORTING REINFORCING
STEEL IN THE PROPER POSITION WHILE PLACING CONCRETE.
5. CONCRETE PROTECTIVE COVERING FOR REINFORCEMENT AT SURFACES WHICH WILL BE
EXPOSED TO THE WEATHER OR BE IN CONTACT WITH THE GROUND SHALL BE 3" MINIMUM.
PROVIDE 3" COVER BELOW AND AT ENDS OF FOOTING BARS.
6. LOCATIONS AND SIZES OF OPENINGS. SLEEVES. ETC.. REQUIRED FOR OTHER
TRADE MUST BE VERIFIED BY THESE TRADES BEFORE PLACING CONCRETE.
7. CONCRETE: Fc = 3000 PSI. STEEL: Fy = 60 KSI.
8. FOUNDATION DESIGN ASSUMES AN ALLOWABLE SOIL BEARING PRESSURE OF
2000 PSI. A QUALIFIED GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER SHOULD BE CONSULTED TO
INSPECT SOIL CONDITIONS PRIOR TO PLACEMENT OF FOOTINGS. IF SOILS
ENCOUNTERED ARE NOT CAPABLE OF SUPPORTING 2000 PSI CONSULT ARCHITECT
ENCOUNTERED ARE NOIMMEDIATELY; HALT FOUNDATION WORK.
9. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY EXISTING SOIL CONDITIONS AND ADJUST
BLOCK HEIGHT FOR FOOTING TO BEAR ON SUITABLE EXISTING SOILS.
