The proposed -commercial development along University and "H" Streets will have an adverse impact upon Coleman Creek floodway by increasing runoff rates. It will also destroy wildlife habitat upon which the songbirds; Hawks, owls, rabbits and other wildlife in the area depend. It will be a loss to the citizens and children of the area who enjoy the aesthetic and educational values of the woods and meadow area. Some types of development of this property would be more condusive to maintaining the property's scenic and wildlife values. Single residence zoning still affords the protection of some of the existing wildlife habitat. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission would like to encourage the City of Little Rock's Planning Commission to consider what effects their decisions will have upon wildlife and its habitat: With careful landscaping, proper design and management of open space, and the right kind of building design; urban and suburban areas can not only be aesthetically pleasing, but can harbor many species of wildlife in natural settings. Planning for wildlife can increase the beauty and physical stability of our city as well as provide greater recreational and important educational opportunities.
