While not Treasurer many would argue that the buildings at the southwest corner of Second Hunter M. Windle and Louisiana streets are of great architectural or historical importance, Secretary their proposed demolition to create surface parking is short-sighted and detrimental to downtown revitalization efforts. By demolishing these buildings for surface parking, the Edward Salo, Ph.D. applicant significantly reduces property tax revenue for the site and W. Chris Sheppard, AIA eliminates the possibility of future revenue generating businesses or Mandy Welch downtown residences in that location. Ex-Officio Healthy, thriving downtowns have building density in their core and Ruth A. Hawkins, Ph.D. parking on the periphery or concealed in parking structures with first Stacy Hurst floor retail. The south half of Block 82 is already occupied by surface Scott Kaufman Carl H. Miller, Jr. parking lots. If allowed, this Conditional Use Permit will leave only two Cheri Nichols buildings standing on the entire block, surrounded by parking lots. I Greg Phillips urge you to deny this Conditional Use Permit for surface parking, and if Debbie Shea there is no alternative to demolition, to encourage the applicant to Hon. John Thurston David Ware, Ph.D. consider a multi -level parking structure with first floor commercial Charles Witsell, Jr., FAIR space. At the very least, this would generate tax revenue and continue the opportunity for pedestrian engagement.
