GENERAL NOTES
1. PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTOR MUST CALL ARKANSAS ONE -CALL UTILITY TO
POSITIVELY LOCATE EACH UNDERGROUND UTILITY.
2. CONTRACTOR IS TO OBTAIN ALL NECESSARY PERMITS FROM THE CITY, STATE AND
FEDERAL AGENCIES PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION.
3. IF CONTRACTOR OBSERVES ANY PROBLEM WITH THE SITE, MATERIALS, OR PLANS
HE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR CONTACTING THE OWNER, OR OWNERS AGENT IMMEDIATELY
SO CORRECTIONS CAN BE MADE.
4. ANY ERRORS OR OMISSIONS TO THESE PLANS MUST BE REPORTED IMMEDIATELY
UPON THERE DISCOVERY.
5. ALL CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE PERFORMED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PLANS, AND
WITHIN LOCAL, STATE, AND FEDERAL REQUIREMENTS.
6. CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY THE PROJECT ENGINEER OF AREAS THAT MAY POND OR
DETER POSITIVE SURFACE DRAINAGE PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL
COMPLY WITH ANY AND ALL CHANGES MADE BY THE ENGINEER TO HELP THE PROBLEM
AREAS. THESE CHANGES, AS LONG AS THEY INVOLVE MINOR GRADING, WILL BE
COMPLETED BY THE CONTRACTOR AT THE CONTRACTOR'S EXPENSE.
7. SEE ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS FOR DETAILS GRADING AT BUILDINGS, STEPS, WALKS,
WALLS AND OTHER STRUCTURES.
8. FINISH CONTOURS AND GRADES SHOWN ARE FOR FINISHED SURFACES, ALLOWANCES
SHALL BE MADE FOR PAVEMENTS, SLABS, TOPSOIL, SOD, ETC. UNIFORM PLANES AND
SURFACES SHALL BE SHAPED BETWEEN FINISHED SPOT ELEVATIONS AND/OR FINISH
CONTOURS SHOWN. SPILLOUT CURB SHALL BE USED ON THE HIGH SIDE OF PAVEMENT
AND AT DISCHARGE POINTS.
9. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CONTROL EROSION ON THE SITE. ALL SLOPES SHALL BE
FERTILIZED, SEEDED AND MULCHED (OR LANDSCAPED) AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THE SITE
SHALL BE GRADED TO MAINTAIN POSITIVE DRAINAGE DURING CONSTRUCTION. WATER
SHALL NOT BE ALLOWED TO POND. PROVISION TO PREVENT EROSION MUST CONFORM TO
ANY REQUIREMENTS OF THE LOCAL, STATE, OR FEDERAL AGENCIES.
10. ALL AREAS TO BE CUT OR FILLED SHALL BE CLEARED AND GRUBBED. ALL FILL SHALL
BE MADE IN 8" LIFTS AND COMPACTED, AT OPTIMUM MOISTURE CONTENT TO 95% OF
MODIFIED PROCTOR DENSITY (ASTM D-1557), AS DETERMINED BY IN-PLACE DENSITY
TESTS. BORROW AND FILL MATERIAL SHALL BE SELECT CLAY SAND, OR SANDY CLAY
HAVING A LIQUID LIMIT LESS THAN 40 OR OTHER APPROVED FILL. FILL SOILS
CLASSIFYING AS SC OR GC ACCORDING TO THE UNIFIED SOILS CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM
ARE CONSIDERED SUITABLE. SHALE MATERIAL USED IN FILL SHALL BE COMPACTED AT 3%
ABOVE OPTIMUM MOISTURE CONTENT WITH A VIBRATORY SHEEPS FOOT COMPACTOR. ALL
FILL SHALL HAVE PROPERTIES ACCEPTBLE FOR MAINTAINING NECESSARY SLOPES
11. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE WITH EACH UTILITY COMPANY PRIOR TO ANY
EXCAVATION. ANY DAMAGE TO UTILITY LINES CAUSED BY THE CONTRACTORS
OPERATIONS SHALL BE REPAIRED AT THE CONTRACTORS EXPENSE. THE CONTRACTOR
SHALL VERIFY THE HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL ALIGNMENT OF EXISTING AND PROPOSED
STORM SEWER, SANITARY SEWER AND WATER LINES TO ENSURE THAT THEY ARE
INSTALLED WITH ADEQUATE COVER AND CLEARANCE. ALL ROUGH GRADING SHALL BE
COMPLETE BEFORE INSTALLATION OF STORM SEWER, SANITARY SEWER AND
APPURTENANCES, WATER MAINS, SERVICES AND APPURTENANCES. ALL UTILITY
TRENCHES SHALL BE BACKFILLED AND COMPACTED WITH SELECT MATERIAL AS SPECIFIED
IN NOTE ABOVE.
12. ALL EXISTING IMPROVEMENTS WHICH INTERFERE WITH THE WORK, AND ARE NOT TO
BE SAVED SHALL BE REMOVED AND DISPOSED OF. IMPROVEMENTS IN THE
RIGHT-OF-WAY WHICH ARE TO REMAIN SHALL BE PROTECTED BY THE CONTRACTOR.
13. ALL REINFORCED CONCRETE PIPE (RCP) SHALL BE CLASS III WITH BELL AND SPIGOT
TYPE JOINTS. PIPE, MATERIAL AND INSTALLATION SHALL BE IN CONFORMANCE WITH
APPLICABLE ARKANSAS HIGHWAY AND TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT (AHTD) STANDARD
CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATIONS.
14. THE CONTRACTORS ATTENTION IS SPECIFICALLY CALLED TO THE LOCATION OF THE
EXISTING IMPROVEMENTS.
15. ANY EXCESS EXCAVATED MATERIAL, NOT REQUIRED FOR CONSTRUCTION OF FILL
SHALL BE HAULED OFF-SITE.
16. ALL SITE EXCAVATION SHALL BE UNCLASSIFIED. ROCK EXCAVATION SHALL BE
SUBSIDIARY TO SITE EXCAVATION.
17. REPAIR, REPLACE OR EXTEND EXISTING, DAMAGED, OR MISSING CURB AND GUTTER,
SIDEWALK, RAMPS OR CONCRETE DRIVEWAY APRONS WITHIN THE PUBLICRIGHT-OF-WAY
ADJACENT TO THE SITE. ALL WORK WITHIN THE CITY RIGHT-OF-WAY SHALL CONFORM
TO CITY STANDARDS AND DETAILS, AND THE ADA GUIDLINES.
18. DRIVEWAY APRONS AND ACCESS RAMPS AT DRIVEWAY SHALL CONFORM TO CITY
STANDARDS DETAIL PW -34. DRIVEWAY CROSSING SHALL HAVE A MAX. CROSS SLOPE OF
1:50 OVER A 3' PATHWAY.
19. DRIVEWAY APRON WITHIN RIGHT-OF-WAY SHALL BE A MINIMUM OF 8"THICK OF 3000
PSI CONCRETE AND MUST CONFORM TO ORDINANCE 16577 AND 16031,

SURFACES SHALL BE SHAPED BETWEEN FINISHED SPOT ELEVATIONS AND/OR FINISH
CONTOURS SHOWN. SPILLOUT CURB SHALL BE USED ON THE HIGH SIDE OF PAVEMENT
AND AT DISCHARGE POINTS.
9. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CONTROL EROSION ON THE SITE. ALL SLOPES SHALL BE
FERTILIZED, SEEDED AND MULCHED (OR LANDSCAPED) AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THE SITE
SHALL BE GRADED TO MAINTAIN POSITIVE DRAINAGE DURING CONSTRUCTION. WATER
SHALL NOT BE ALLOWED TO POND. PROVISION TO PREVENT EROSION MUST CONFORM TO
ANY REQUIREMENTS OF THE LOCAL, STATE, OR FEDERAL AGENCIES.
10. ALL AREAS TO BE CUT OR FILLED SHALL BE CLEARED AND GRUBBED. ALL FILL SHALL
BE MADE IN 8" LIFTS AND COMPACTED, AT OPTIMUM MOISTURE CONTENT TO 95% OF
MODIFIED PROCTOR DENSITY (ASTM D-1557), AS DETERMINED BY IN-PLACE DENSITY
TESTS. BORROW AND FILL MATERIAL SHALL BE SELECT CLAY SAND, OR SANDY CLAY
HAVING A LIQUID LIMIT LESS THAN 40 OR OTHER APPROVED FILL. FILL SOILS
CLASSIFYING AS SC OR GC ACCORDING TO THE UNIFIED SOILS CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM
ARE CONSIDERED SUITABLE. SHALE MATERIAL USED IN FILL SHALL BE COMPACTED AT 3%
ABOVE OPTIMUM MOISTURE CONTENT WITH A VIBRATORY SHEEPS FOOT COMPACTOR. ALL
FILL SHALL HAVE PROPERTIES ACCEPTBLE FOR MAINTAINING NECESSARY SLOPES
11. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE WITH EACH UTILITY COMPANY PRIOR TO ANY
EXCAVATION. ANY DAMAGE TO UTILITY LINES CAUSED BY THE CONTRACTORS
OPERATIONS SHALL BE REPAIRED AT THE CONTRACTORS EXPENSE. THE CONTRACTOR
SHALL VERIFY THE HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL ALIGNMENT OF EXISTING AND PROPOSED
STORM SEWER, SANITARY SEWER AND WATER LINES TO ENSURE THAT THEY ARE
INSTALLED WITH ADEQUATE COVER AND CLEARANCE. ALL ROUGH GRADING SHALL BE
COMPLETE BEFORE INSTALLATION OF STORM SEWER, SANITARY SEWER AND
APPURTENANCES, WATER MAINS, SERVICES AND APPURTENANCES. ALL UTILITY
TRENCHES SHALL BE BACKFILLED AND COMPACTED WITH SELECT MATERIAL AS SPECIFIED
IN NOTE ABOVE.
12. ALL EXISTING IMPROVEMENTS WHICH INTERFERE WITH THE WORK, AND ARE NOT TO
BE SAVED SHALL BE REMOVED AND DISPOSED OF. IMPROVEMENTS IN THE
RIGHT-OF-WAY WHICH ARE TO REMAIN SHALL BE PROTECTED BY THE CONTRACTOR.
13. ALL REINFORCED CONCRETE PIPE (RCP) SHALL BE CLASS III WITH BELL AND SPIGOT
TYPE JOINTS. PIPE, MATERIAL AND INSTALLATION SHALL BE IN CONFORMANCE WITH
APPLICABLE ARKANSAS HIGHWAY AND TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT (AHTD) STANDARD
CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATIONS.
14. THE CONTRACTORS ATTENTION IS SPECIFICALLY CALLED TO THE LOCATION OF THE
EXISTING IMPROVEMENTS.
15. ANY EXCESS EXCAVATED MATERIAL, NOT REQUIRED FOR CONSTRUCTION OF FILL
SHALL BE HAULED OFF-SITE.
16. ALL SITE EXCAVATION SHALL BE UNCLASSIFIED. ROCK EXCAVATION SHALL BE
SUBSIDIARY TO SITE EXCAVATION.
17. REPAIR, REPLACE OR EXTEND EXISTING, DAMAGED, OR MISSING CURB AND GUTTER,
SIDEWALK, RAMPS OR CONCRETE DRIVEWAY APRONS WITHIN THE PUBLICRIGHT-OF-WAY
ADJACENT TO THE SITE. ALL WORK WITHIN THE CITY RIGHT-OF-WAY SHALL CONFORM
TO CITY STANDARDS AND DETAILS, AND THE ADA GUIDLINES.
18. DRIVEWAY APRONS AND ACCESS RAMPS AT DRIVEWAY SHALL CONFORM TO CITY
STANDARDS DETAIL PW -34. DRIVEWAY CROSSING SHALL HAVE A MAX. CROSS SLOPE OF
1:50 OVER A 3' PATHWAY.
19. DRIVEWAY APRON WITHIN RIGHT-OF-WAY SHALL BE A MINIMUM OF 8"THICK OF 3000
PSI CONCRETE AND MUST CONFORM TO ORDINANCE 16577 AND 16031,
