HomeMy WebLinkAboutHDC1984-004 APPLICATION (7)WELCH -CHERRY HOUSE RESTORATION The project consists of three parts: the restoration of the Welch -Cherry House, the remodeling of the apartment house to the west, and the addition of an inner -block landscaped parking court. Exterior restoration of the Welch -Cherry House will basically involve the rehabitation of existing materials. All damaged brick will be pointed and rotten trim and box gutters will be removed and replaced with identical elements constructed of exterior grade " materials. The slate roof will be repaired, replacing broken slate tiles with matching material while the built-up roof area will be repaired as necessary. All new flashing will match the original. Existing doors and windows will be refurbished and re -used. The main thrust of the exterior work on the Welch -Cherry House centers around the porches to the west and south. The western porch will probably be razed due to its unstable structural condition. It will be replaced using columns, brackets, and other railings and trim salvaged from the original. The southern porch will be stripped of the latest infill of siding and windows and re -glazed using appropriate wood units as shown on the drawings. The apartment house, having been remodeled recently, will have general repairs made and all surfaces cleaned and repainted. On the interior of the block, a parking court will be construct- ed. Only existing curb cuts will be used, leading to the parking area which is outlined with concrete curb and gutter and paved with asphalt. New landscaping, in addition to retaining all sign- ificant existing trees, together with exterior lighting complete the court.
