Section 36-201(e) to permit
construction of a ground -mounted
tower 250 feet in height.
Due to the nature of cellular
technology, it is necessary to have
this proposed tower at 250 feet in
height to provide optimum service
to Cellular One's clients.

The applicant proposes to construct a 250 foot tall,
monopole tower on this 1-2 zoned property. The ordinance
states "No steel or other metal ground -mounted tower shall
exceed seventy-five feet in height above adjacent ground."
in order to provide the highest level of service to its
clients, Cellular one feels that the proposed 250 foot tall
tower is necessary in this location.
The proposed tower site is located in a deteriorated
industrial area. Surrounding uses are vacant industrial

lots and buildings, railroad tracks, a junkyard and the
1-630 Freeway.
The freeway passes over this area at a height of 60 to 70
feet above grade. Two billboards in the immediate vicinity
extend 30± feet above the height of the freeway. .
The proposed tower is of mono -pole design which should cause
minimal visual impact.
C. Staff Recommendation:
Staff recommends approval of the requested height variance.
BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT: (AUGUST 29, 1994)
John Flake was present representing the applicant. There were no
objectors present. Staff presented the item and a recommendation
of approval.
Mr. Flake stated he had no additional comments to offer.
A brief discussion then followed concerning the height of other
objects in the immediate vicinity including the freeway overpass
and billboard signs. The zoning and uses of the properties in
the area was discussed.
A motion was made to approve the requested height variance. The
motion was approved by a vote of 6 ayes, 0 noes, 1 absent and
2 open position. I
