ARTICLE VIII. - OFF-STREET PARKING AND LOADING
Sec. 36-501. - Purpose and intent.
This article is designed to prevent or alleviate the congestion of the public streets and to
promote the safety and welfare of the public. This article establishes herein minimum
requirements for the off-street parking, loading and unloading of motor vehicles appropriate to
each land use and its intensity in relation to other land uses.
(Code 1961, Ch. 43, § 8-101(a))
Sec. 36-502. - Required off-street parking.
f. Schools and educational institutions.
1. Nursery, kindergarten and day care centers, 1.0 space per
administrator, teacher and employee on the largest shift plus 1.0
space per facility vehicle plus 1.0 space per 10.0 persons of
licensed capacity.
2. Elementary (grades 1-5), 1.0 space per classroom plus 1.0 space
for each teacher, employee and administrator on the largest shift.
Stacking space for drop-off and pick-up shall be required on site.
Stacking space shall be adequate to accommodate private vehicles
and school buses.
ARTICLE VIII. - OFF-STREET PARKING AND LOADING
3. Middle (grades 1-8), 1.0 space per classroom plus 1.0 space for
each teacher, employee and administrator on the largest shift.
Stacking space for drop-off and pick-up shall be required on site.

Little Rock Superinten-
dent Mike Poore and his
staff are crafting a proposal
for closing, consolidating
and re -purposing as many
as 20 schools in anticipation
of the 2020 opening of the
new -Southwest High and in
response to the district's loss
of hundreds of students.
In drafting the building
plan, Poore and his staff are
drawing from responses to
the "starter ideas" he offered
at community forums in Sep-
tember and from an online,
open-ended 16 -page survey
done in October of parents,
students, district employees,
business people, elected offi-
cials,.nonprofit professionals,
faith leaders and others.
Those survey responses
comprise a 28 -page report to
Poore in which proposals are
praised or criticized or alter-
natives are offered.
"1 love the idea of making
Hdll High a STEM [science,
technology, engineering and
math] school that kids from
Forest Heights STEM Acade-
my could progress to AFTER
8th grade," one responder for
example is quoted as saying.
"Moving Sth graders to Hall
from Forest Heights, howev-
er, is a HORRIBLE idea!'

do with Henderson Middle
School.

We don't have enough basket-
ball courts or baseball fields
for kids in -these grades. If
it's used by the public it will

MCCLELLAN
The preliminary plan
calls for building a. kinder-
garten -through -eighth -grade
school on the McClellan High
site. The new school would
likely replace Cloverdale Mid-
dle and one or more elemen-
tary schools ;such as Baseline,
Watson, Meadoweliff and
Wakefield.

updated facilities in that area
K-8 schools are a fantastic set-
up..Thi.s is a wonderful new
concept that I am so thankful
LRSD is implementing.

much older more mature stu-

■ Many of these schools al-
ready have pockets of disci-
pline issues and parent prob-
lems. Placing them in one
large population is not educa-
