SUBDIVISION
Item No. 8 (Continued)
PLANNING COMMISSION ACTION: (August 8, 1989)
Staff recommendation of this item remains the same and is
denial based upon noncompliance with the neighborhood plan.
Mr. Gunn was present as was his architect for this project.
Mr. Gunn presented information to the Planning Commission,
giving them the history of the site and how he has lost all
the nonconforming rights. Mr. Gunn said that he would like
to have an office building which he felt would be more
appropriate for the building/structure than an apartment.
He felt that the cost of converting the building to office
would be less than if he had to convert the building into
apartments.
Mr. Asti, the architect, commented on the letter that had
been submitted to the Planning Commission. He said the
building needs to be altered and could become an enhancement
for the neighborhood.
Cathe Nippier of Polk Street was representing the
neighborhood. She reported the building had become an
eyesore over the years. She showed the Commission
photographs from 1986 and from 1989. She had sent a letter
to Mr. Gunn with petitions from 41 residents requesting the
building to be altered. (Petition not offered for file.)
Mr. Asti presented drawings to the Commission showing how he
intended to alter the building to look like one that had
been remodeled.
A lengthy discussion of the proposal followed with comments
from Mr. Gunn, Mr. Asti and several of the Commissioners.
The Planning Commission voted to deny this application. The
motion was made and passed by a vote of 7 ayes, 0 noes,
4 absent.
