Allen School for Exceptional Children 824 North Tyler Street Little Rock, AR 72205 Dear Ms. Benham: This letter is to inform you of the Little Rock Board of Adjustment action regarding your request for extension of time of 36 months on an approved variance for a gravel parking lot located at 800 North Tyler Street. At the August 21, 1989 meeting the Board approved an extension of your request for a period of 12 months only. Within that time frame the school has two options; (1) either bring the lot into compliance with the City's paving requirements or return back to the Board with explanations as to why the requirements have not been met; or (2) the school has to pave the area used for the six (6) additional parking spaces along with maintaining the remaining area of the lot as open space or green area with barriers to prevent any additional parking on the lot. Allen oSchool for Exceptional Children 824 North Tyler Street - Little Rock, Arkansas 72205 - Phone (501) 664-2961 July 27, 1989 Board of Adjustment Little Rock City Hall 500 W. Markham Little Rock, AR 72201 Dear Sirs: The Francis A. Allen School would like to request a 36 month extension of the variance, originally granted June 16, 1986 from the Board of Adjustment for a gravel parking lot located at 800 North Tyler in Little Rock. The Board of Directors and Administration of the school feel that this time is needed to either raise capital in order to pave the area in such a way as to add to the "neighborhood" appearance or to sell the property. The Francis A. Allen School is a non-profit agency which serves handicapped children. We are funded through the Department of Human Services, Medicaid, United Way, and private donations. Medicaid funding cuts are at this time being mandated by the Health Care Financing Administration. This places our agency in jeopardy of losing half of its present funding. The parking lot at this time blends well with the neighborhood. There is a four -foot chain link fence, well - covered with shrubs and vines completely bordering our neighbor's back yard. Our cars are parked facing the fence. There are two beautiful large oak trees and several smaller trees and shrubs which add to the neighborhood quality of the lot. Our neighbors all agree that the parking lot is a needed addition to the area and frees up street parking for them. I must mention also that there is no parking allowed on "H" Street which runs beside our building. Tyler Street, which runs in front of our building, is narrow with only partial curbs and gutters. We believe our request for reasonable and necessary. favorable consideration. Sincerely, LC Suzanne Benham Executive Director Q A United Way Agency an extension of the variance is We respectfully request your Francis A. Allen School For Exceptional Children is in compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act and is operated, managed and delivers its services without regard to sex, race, color or National Origin.
