Historic District Commission
After reviewing the proposed Local Historic District Report for the Central High
School Historic District, I am submitting additional requests based on feedback from
Wright Avenue Neighborhood residents and property owners.
1. The Wright Avenue Neighborhood Association, Inc will assist with identifying
a Wright Avenue Neighborhood property owner(s) to serve as a member(s) on
the Historic District Commission, if the local historic district ordinance passes.
2. The Wright Avenue Neighborhood Association, Inc will be included in
planning and establishing guidelines for our Local Historic District
3. The Local Historic District will protect historic preservation while respecting
rich history and culture of the Historic Wright Avenue Neighborhood
4. The Local Historic District’s guidelines will protect against displacement and
prevent major increase in tax liability.
5. The Local Historic District will not impose burdens on low income and/or fixed
income residents of the Historic Wright Avenue Neighborhood.
6. The Local Historic District will be named Wright Avenue Neighborhood
Historic District covering the Wright Avenue Neighborhood boundaries. The
Central High District will not cover the Wright Avenue Neighborhood
boundaries.
The Planning Department omitted references to the Wright Avenue Neighborhood
from the proposed Local Historic District report. The report referred to our
neighborhood as the Central High Neighborhood. Although the report was corrected
when the question was raised about this omission, there is concern that this type of
exclusion will heighten if the proposed ordinance passes as is.
I am asking you to give these requests very serious consideration, even though this
may lead to the Historic District Commission’s delayed approval of the local district.
Sheila Miles, President
Wright Avenue Neighborhood Association, Inc.
