HomeMy WebLinkAboutCBC 07-11-2013(2)LITTLE R£]CK CITY BEAUTIFUL COMMISSION The City Beautiful Commission held its regular meeting Thursday, July 1lth, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. at Curran Hall. Vice -chair Minor called the meeting to order. MEMBERS PRESENT: Steve Homeyer Chris Minor Jennie Cole Lynn Warren Carrie Young Cassie Toro Ed Peek Wally Loveless MEMBERS ABSENT: Bill Wiedower Freddie Ratliff Brittany Snyman ALSO PRESENT: Christy Marvel, Plans Development Administrator, Department of Planning & Development, City of Little Rock Beth Blevins Carpenter, Deputy City Attorney, City Attorney's Office, City of Little Rock APPROVAL OF THE DUNE MINUTES: Motion: Commissioner Homeyer made a motion to accept the minutes with changes noted. Second: Commissioner Young seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. INTRODUCTION OF NEW CBC MEMBER: CASSIE TORO TREASURER'S REPORT: no report; treasury absent. City Staff noted the current balance for the tree fund account as follows: $27,174.33 COMMITTEE REPORTS: UPDATES: OLD BUSINESS: Community Pro a ects-Commissioner Warren they had not heard anything from parks; noted another email would be sent. It was noted the trees belong to the City of Little Rock; therefore, they will need to remove. It was noted a meeting with Parks in September would be ideal. I-630 Trees- Vice -chair Minor noted he'd attempted to contact Philander Smith and will continue. Discussion commenced on logistics and the need for a special committee. d Website-Commissioner Warren noted she'd uploaded the Landscape Award photos; however, has been unable to get anything from Meg Matthews to date but she will continue trying. Also uploaded was the Board of Directors meeting of the awards ceremony. The contact list was also updated. Business cards were discussed for the new members; Vice -Chair Minor noted he would work on the acquisition of the cards. Library Exhibit -no report. KLRB Commissioner Loveless noted attending the KLRB meeting recently. An update on their current and upcoming projects was given. For further information their website follows: www.klrb.or Also, Commissioner Loveless distributed the new Adopt -A -Street brochure. The Public Works Department is also producing the bumper stickers again. The annual litter survey is also coming up if any CBC would be interested in participating. Adopt-A-Street_The KLRB commission is updating their program. The new brochure for the program is being distributed. Commissioner Warren noted she would upload it to the CBC website. It was noted the local access channel should be used to remind adoptees to pick up their adopted streets (areas) periodically as a Public Service Announcement (PSA). Communications -Commissioner Cole noted the recent broadcast of the Eye of the Beholder Award on Saturday morning television seemed to be a success due to the amount of feedback generated. Eye of the Beholder -Commissioner Young has produced and set up the advertisements throughout the city; at local nurseries. Commissioner Young requested Commissioners please try to turn in your three (3) nominations soon. Commissioner Young continues to work on the Eye advertisements throughout the City of Little Rock. Landscape Awards -Commissioner Homeyer noted the nomination period is still open. Commissioner Young noted having a site to turn in as a nomination. Commissioner Loveless noted he'd scanned an Adopt -A -Street brochure and would send it to Commissioner Warren. Commissioner Homeyer inquired about the K-mart site on Rodney Parham. Commissioner Loveless noted it was a work in progress. ADJOURNMENT: Motion: Commissioner Warren made a motion to adjourn. Second: Commissioner Peek seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 12:47 p.m.
