3. Leadership Development Workshops
Susan Everett reported on the four upcoming Leadership Development Workshops in
Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; Dallas, Texas; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Charlotte, North
Carolina. Chapters were reminded to return their ASLA/Chapter Sponsorship Reply
Forms as soon as possible so that National can determine hew many opening will
be available to market to the general membership.
Everett also noted that tuition for individuals sponsored. by the chapter is covered by
national, so it's passible for a chapter to sponsor members_ without necessarily
incurring any cost.
4. Fellows Nominations
Susan Everett also reminded the Council about the package of information they
received in mid -January regarding the nomination of candidates for the Council of
Fellows. A sample entry was included in the information packet this year to help
chapters get started. The submissions are due by April 24, 1992.
5. Staffing Report
David Bohardt reported on the status of the staff cutbacks in the National ASLA
Headquarters. The staff has been reduced by four members already and progress is
being made to save the other two positions scheduled to be cut. The staff now
stands at 29 with eight of those people being on the magazine staff. David stated
that the changes in the headquarters' staff include the consolidation and streamlining
of operations and einphasized that there should be no apparent loss of service to ,ihe
membership. The chapter coordinator, which was one of the four positions cut,
remains unfilled.
6. Open Forum
• Chapter Presidents' Network
The Council discussed the need for better communication of • information, ;
between the chapters. Options for improving the networking included better
use of the Council Letter and tying into a bulletin board on the Design
Network System currently being proposed..
• Chapter -National Cosponsoring
The Council discussed the importance of local chapters helping National
ASLA coordinate education seminars within their territory to avoid conflicts
in meeting times and topics and to improve the quality of the local site
selection for seminars.
• Attracting inorities to the Profession and to ASLA
The Counciit discussed the growing need to attract minorities to the
profession. Chapters may be able to be more effective in correcting this
problem by ;laving personal contact with the schools within their chapters.
