Enclosed is your Certificate of Compliance (COC). You will need to sign a copy and return it to
me. I have included all work discussed that can be accomplished without having a public
hearing in front of the Historic District Commission. You will need that COC to obtain your
building permit.
If you choose to add storm windows to your structure, you will need to appear before the
Historic District Commission. Applications are available on the web or in our office. I suggest
either full screens or no screens at all. The metal of the window should be a color to match the
window jamb color. The metal on storm windows can be painted.
When you get ready for a sign, please see the guidelines for suggestions on signage. You will
need to appear before the HDC for that approval. Feel free to combine multiple items together
when appearing before the HDC.
Concerning your front porch roof, I have had another case of a metal roof that was in need of
being replaced. That owner replaced it with a matching metal roof at Staff's recommendation. If
you do not want to replace it with metal, you may apply for a Certificate of Appropriateness with
the required public hearing.
Many questions that you may have can be answered in the copy of the Guidelines that you
received the other day. If there are any additional questions, or clarification needed, please give
me a call.
Placing a tarp on top of a leaking roof is certainly okay with Staff. Please protect your
investment. I know it will be removed when the roof is repaired.
Please contact David McClymont at our office at 371-4875. He is one of our Plans Examiners.
He is knowledgeable of ADA requirements and will determine if you are required to install a
handicap accessible bathroom and make any changes to the exterior ramp.
Sincerely,
Brian Minyard
