Dear Sir or Ma'am,
I am submitting the attached Special Use Permit application to request the use of one room of my primary residence
for short-term rentals.
own a moderately -sized 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home in the Hillcrest neighborhood, near University Avenue
(outside the historic district boundary). The house contains more rooms than our small household uses, and I would
like to rent one room (plus an attached bathroom) to short-term visitors. This would allow me to share our city with
travelers, provide a small boost to our household income, and also present opportunities for me and my family to
meet and engage with interesting people from diverse backgrounds.
I understand the hesitancy of some communities to welcome short-term rentals, due to situations caused by poor and
often absentee management; these include unauthorized parking causing unsafe traffic conditions, partiers creating
unwelcome noise, and visitors leaving litter around the property. If my request was approved, the following factors
would help prevent these situations from occurring:
1. There is adequate off-street parking for visitors at my home;
2. Parties would not be allowed on the premises;
3. Litter would be regularly policed; and
4. 1 own my home and live in it year-round.
I'm an Arkansas transplant —"I wasn't born here, but I got here as fast as I could," as they say —and I am impressed at
what Little Rock has to offer. The city provides no shortage of diversions, from dining out to cultural experiences, and
as nature -lover, I'm especially delighted by the natural beauty and recreational opportunities close by. I'm excited
about the possibility of sharing Little Rock with others while also augmenting my income by responsibly offering a
small portion of my home as a sanctuary for visitors.
