I am writing this email to object to the building of two duplexes on the southwest corner of West 30th Street and Potter
Street. This is directly behind my house. I have lived here over 47 years and what once was an upper middle class
neighborhood has turned into a poor struggling neighborhood. The house that was on the lot referenced in this file was
burned down by two juveniles. Before that it was a rent house with drug traffic and prostitution. From that area there
have been gun shots, fireworks on every holiday, drug deals, reported burglaries, window vibrating music, a dog fighting
ring, several squatters removed from that particular property, graffiti written on our fence, two incidents of cars driving thru
our fence on two sides, and garbage and other trash still being dumped at that corner. It is a vacant corner with two
streets dead ending into each other and a rather large oversized double vacant lot on the SE corner of West 30th &
Potter. At that corner Potter is a wider street but 30th Street is hardly wide enough for two cars with a ditch and easement
on my side. Luckily in the past several years as houses have been torn down and wooded lots removed, a dozen or more
new brick one family houses have emerged on 28th Street, 29th Street, and on Walker Street. The area is finally
beginning to turn around. Putting two duplexes with renters on the SW corner will not be of benefit or raise the value of
the property. It will encourage more duplexes or an apartment on the other vacant lot at the SE corner, a secluded corner
that is not monitored by police or traffic and could easily be overtaken again by undesirables. Homes like the ones
recently built have proved to maintain a more quiet orderly existence and bring more value to the area. This is just not an
area that attracts good responsible renters. Homeowners would be of greater benefit. Please don't approve this
application to put duplexes in this area. Let this area continue to move forward, not backward.
Thank you
