HomeMy WebLinkAboutApplicant's Letter to Neighbors 032521March 16, 2021 Hi, Neighbor! My family recently moved -in at 3608 Doral Drive. We are glad to be a part of the neighborhood and hope to meet everyone soon. As you may have noticed, our driveway has a short, steep decline leading to down to our garage. Unfortunately, even in the short time we have lived here, there have been a couple of slips/falls by our friends (and a delivery person) on the slick pavement. We have explored a few options to provide for safe pedestrian access from the street down to our home. Blackwood Construction (License No. 0408321221) proposed the staircase in the drawing below. We think it would be a beautiful, safe addition to our property. I plan to landscape around it, and solar -powered light toppers will be added to each of the posts. The staircase will be setback 10' from Doral Drive (observing the 10' easement) and will be constructed of treated pine set in concrete footings with 36" handrailing. The Pleasant Valley Property Owners Association's Architectural Control Committee approved the plan on March 2, 2021. - - _ .-A _ - -;Lim We've since learned of zoning regulations that require a variance be filed for any structures within 35' of Doral Drive. As such, we are seeking a Zoning Variance with the city to have the staircase built. Zoning variance requests require notification to all neighbors within 200' of our property, so we're writing to let you know of our plans. Attached is the official form to notify you of the variance. It includes details on how you may contact the City and/or attend a public hearing related to this request. If you would like to see an in -person staircase of this type, 296 Valley Club has a wooden staircase down to their home from the street. It's a lot of work, but we think the safety of our visitors (which will hopefully include you & your family) is worth pursuing. If there are any questions I can answer, please don't hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your consideration.
