Stephan,
Your email was so thorough! Thank you for the historic photo. I see no issues with adding two more benches out front.

Subject: MacArthur Park Easement Question
Katherine,
Brian Minyard provided your contact info as the new Easement Coordinator for the Arkansas
Historic Preservation Program. The Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts received permission from
the state in May to demolish the north plaza/pool on the crescent lawn between the museum
and 9th St. The fourteen benches located in that area will be relocated to various places around
MacArthur Park. I wanted to reach out concerning a request to add two of the benches to the
front lawn of the historic Arsenal Building, home to the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas
Military History. Currently, there are two benches on the front lawn (one bench on each side).
The attached photographs show the location of theses benches. There is historical precedent
for additional benches in the lawn area. A 1900 photograph (attached) clearly shows multiple
benches on the western lawn. The area is covered by a 2017 conservation easement between
the City of Little Rock and the State. Your approval will allow us to work with the City to place
two more benches. Please feel free to call or email if you have any questions.
