As a neighbor looking forward to the opening of the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts, I was disturbed by the proposal to trash (remove) existing Signs #1 and #2. These signs were paid for by supporters of MacArthur Park and should not be trashed. I respectfully request that as a condition of approval of HDC2021-010, Signs #1 and #2 be relocated to another highly visible position in the park--perhaps the southeast and southwest corners of MacArthur Park, or place Sign #1 on the berm along I-630 where it will be highly visible from the interstate. Many in the community have worked hard to improve MacArthur Park, Their work should not be trashed. I offer a comment on another feature. The park and its museums serve a diverse community. Sidewalks should be planned following the rule that form follows function. The project plan states: "These sidewalks will typically be 6’ wide and exposed small aggregate concrete." Aggregate concrete may be pleasing to the eye, but it can present challenges for diverse users. Those with mobility devices can find it difficult to negotiate. A parent pushing a baby in a stroller will need to push harder, and if the baby is napping, the baby will be startled and jarred awake by the aggregate surface. Stained concrete can be pleasing to the eye and diverse users. However, if it must be aggregate, please a very, very small aggregate keeping the surface as smooth as possible. Thank you for the accepting comments. John O. Hedrick 305 East 15th Street Little Rock, AR 72202 501-744-4537
