Frame — All Challenger II wood frame
members are milled from select wood stock.
They're precision molded and treated with a
water repellent and preservative to maintain a
durable exterior finish. Exposed exterior surfaces
are factory primed or optional unprimed.
Constructed with rigid interlock construction,
stepped and jointed, as opposed to merely butt -
fitting pieces at the head, sill and jambs. Basic
frame width is 49116", with industry standard 2"
x 1114" brickmould (WP 180 type).
Weatherstripping, hardware and inside stops are
furnished and factory applied.
Sash — The wood sash is assembled with
mortise and tenon corner joints, for increased
strength and stability. Both sash tilt inward for
easy cleaning. Exposed exterior surfaces are
factory primed. Interior surfaces are clear,
preservative treated and unprimed.
Glass — Clear %" insulating glass is
standard, providing double -pane insulation
value with minimum maintenance. The
BiltBest 20 year glass warranty applies to the
Challenger II also — most other "shop built"
windows can't make that claim.
Weatherstripping — For optimum
weatherstripping a dual durometer bulb is used
on the top sash and on the sill stop. A wool pile
air block pad is set in the vinyl jambliner at the
checkrail position to minimize air infiltration.
Glazing — Sash are glazed with 5/N"
insulating glass as manufactured by BiltBest
Windows. All insulating glass on window units
is glazed using a new class of warm applied
thermosetting high pei formance sealant
engineered for the "Intercept"' sealer system.
Special insulating glass is available for altitudes
above 4,000 feet.
Balance — A dual steel spring balance
system counter -balances both sash. An
adjustable spring clutch mechanism insures
easy balanced sash operation. Springs are
flocked to minimize annoying operating noise.
Hardware — A die-cast metal loch in
goldtone finish ensures firm sash closure with
positive cam -action locking.
