TO: Brian Minyard, City of Little Rock, Plannirg & Development Office FROM: Patricia Blick, ED RE: H DC2020-026 DATE: March 2, 2021 The QQA Advocacy Committee has reviewed the original application at our earlier meeting and staff has reviewed revised application for the property at 900 S. Rock Street. We understand the stained columns that were on the front porch have been removed from the house and the current application. The Historic District Commission is considering the wood siding that replaced the damaged vinyl siding around the front door and the gable of the front porch. For reference, we are including a copy of the survey of they property that was undertaken in 1977. According to the survey form, page 2, the house was covered with clapboard siding, and covered with vinyl at an unknown date. In reviewing the undertaking, the MacArthur Park Historic Guidelines for Rehabilitation and New Construction were referenced, section III. B. 5: Siding: Historic, siding materials, such as weatherboard, wood shingles, and stucco, should be preserved. If originai'siding materials must be replaced, the new siding should match the original as closely as possible, especially with respect to board size. Original corner boards should be duplicated in their full original dimensions. I made a visit to see the house and assessed the siding as installed. The staff report indicates that the vinyl siding replicates the original clapboard siding, however the newly installed cedar siding, while a similar width of the vinyl siding is flush, there is not an overlap. In order to minimize the difference between the new siding and the existing siding, we would recommend painting the new siding to match the body of the house.
