923 Mcmath Letter to Brian Minyard - 23Sep20
Brian,
In an effort to address requested clarifications brought up in your letter dated September 14th, please see the
following:
1. Steps to house: Will the steps under the front deck be removed? Yes, the deck and steps under the front deck
will be removed.
2. Walls: a bit of the original weatherboard wood siding is exposed on the south side of the structure. Is it your
intent to match or replicate this siding after the aluminum siding is removed? The overlay weatherboard will be
removed and what appears to be the original siding will be restored/replicated where necessary with siding to
match the original and painted.
3. Back Porch to Screen Porch: Specify location of this action. Is this the lean-to on the east side of the
house? The porch does not appear to have been a screened porch originally as we had thought. We have
reconsidered and have decided not to make it one now. Therefore the back (East) side of the house will not
change in appearance. Note: The amended application reflects this change of plans.
4. Doors: Specify brand, model number, finish, and size for all exterior doors. There are two exterior doors;
one at the front (West) entrance and one at the back (East) entrance. As these will enter into windowless
common spaces, the doors must have some glass to allow for light. We propose the installation of the
following wood doors constructed out of paint grade Poplar and with clear glass.
Front Entrance (west/McMath facing facade):
Simpson Door #: 3117 - 36”x80” in paint grade Poplar

Rear Entrance (East/backyard facing facade):
Simpson Door #: 3713 - 36” x 80” in paint grade Poplar

5. Windows: Specify brand, model number, and finish for storm windows. Will the storm windows be operable
or one fixed pane? The original plan included operational, screen & glass storm windows. As I have
attempted to find a window contractor to produce them for me, it has become clear that my previous
manufacturer contacts no longer make them. I have been unable to find anyone else at this time. Therefore,
2
I am removing the addition of storm windows from the application (the amended application reflects this
change). If at a later date we find someone to produce the windows for us, we will readdress this with H DC at
that time.
6. Lighting: Specify location, brand, model number, finish, and size for all exterior lighting either affixed to
house, garage, or freestanding. In our attempts to secure the building and discourage unwelcomed visitors my
electrical contractor realized the existing exterior lighting was operational and sufficient for the task. The
amended application does not include adding exterior lighting.
7. Gutters: Show locations of gutters on elevations with size and materials of guttering and downspouts. We
propose to add 6”, K-style aluminum guttering at the North and South edges of the roof with downspouts as
indicated. Along with the amended application, please find attached to this email exterior pictures showing
location of gutters and downspouts. We propose the following aluminum gutters and downspouts:

8. Mechanical Systems: State location of any exterior air conditioning/heating system units. For security and
ascetics our plan at this time is for Exterior A/C condensing units to be placed on the North side of the
building.
9. Satellite Dishes: State location and details on any satellite dish. If not using a dish, please state so. There will
be no satellite dishes on the house. The current one on the North side of the roof is non-operational and will
be removed.
10. Roof: will the roof be replaced? If so, how? A roofing contractor will remove the degraded 20 yr.
composite shingles and rolled roofing over shed roof sections of front and back porches, restore decking as
necessary and replace with new 20 yr. composite shingles and rolled roofing over shed roof sections of front
and back porches.
11. Parking: It is your intent to include the expansion of the parking lot on the corner in this application? If so,
please update your cover letter and application to reflect. Both the amended application and amended cover
letter reflect this addition.
Along with these clarifications I have added a change in plans regarding the main house (923 McMath). The
house has clearly been configured as a duplex at some point in it’s history. Due to the commercial nature of
this particular location, rather than a single family home, we have decided that it makes more economic
sense to return the house to a duplex. As the entrance and exit doors will open to common areas inside, this
change in plans will not require any modifications to current exterior window and door placements.
