We understand that it would make sense to remove this hardware now since the equipment to access the windows is onsite and the windows are being painted. In order to facilitate re-installation of the hardware in the future, should someone wish to put them back, we suggest: - Devise a system for numbering the window openings using elevation drawings of the building. - Remove pairs or sets of shutter hardware, wrap the pairs separately and mark them with the corresponding number of the window opening. - Store the hardware in a box or small crate along with the window key drawings and indicate on the box what it contains and label “Do not discard” While this will add some work to the removal process we feel it’s the best way to assure that the hardware can be restored to its original location in the future. Also, most of the shutter hardware appears to be mortised into the window frames. These mortises should be left intact and not filled in but should be painted.
