Subject:1 x 12 column wrap material fro MacArthur Museum
Morris Beck Construction has found that the treated 1 x 12 material that is to be used on the column faces
tends to warp badly immediately when loosened from the shipping packing. They have tried several ways to
flatten the material, but it is splitting when they try to install it. We must have a replacement product for that
use. They proposed a cedar alternate, which was not heartwood) for an added cost of $12,800. We also could
use treated plywood, but we would have horizontal joints at every 8'. A third option would be cement board
which can be obtained in 12' lengths, but still may have an occasional horizontal joint showing. A this time we
are only suggesting that the 1 x 12 material be substituted for. Please let me know your preference.
