After multiple emails on January 2nd and 3rd between city employees, the fence was allowed to be built lower than the approved COA with the conditions as stated below in the January 3, 2018 email. I do not see any reason to change the approval that was issued on January 3, 2018. In a following conversation, the fence height was to be measured from the ground elevation of the patio area (the granite fines surface). I think It needs to be this tall to adequately screen the units on the ground. A fence the same height as the units or slightly above does not screen the units when there are active uses that close. The duct work will also need to be painted to match the wall and the decorative diamond pattern. This will be completed before your permanent or temporary Certificate of Occupancy is issued. As we discussed over the phone, I would like to propose lowering the overall height of the wood fence around the mechanical yard to just enough to conceal the condensing units, and paint the exposed ductwork running up the building in a matching paint color. I wasn't sure what was defined as "equipment" when discussing elements that have to be concealed from view. I am hoping the ductwork can be allowed to pop up above the fencing, especially if we paint it, as the City typically allows for other visible mechanical elements, like kitchen exhaust fans. Please let me know what you think, and/or if you have any other questions, Thank you, JAMES A. L. SULLIVAN Assoc. A.I.A.
