I think It needs to be this tall to adequately screen the units on the ground. A fence the same height as the units or slightly above does not screen the units when there are active uses that close. The duct work will also need to be painted to match the wall and the decorative diamond pattern. This will be completed before your permanent or temporary Certificate of Occupancy is issued. As we discussed over the phone, I would like to propose lowering the overall height of the wood fence around the mechanical yard to just enough to conceal the condensing units, and paint the exposed ductwork running up the building in a matching paint color. I wasn't sure what was defined as "equipment" when discussing elements that have to be concealed from view. I am hoping the ductwork can be allowed to pop up above the fencing, especially if we paint it, as the City typically allows for other visible mechanical elements, like kitchen exhaust fans.
