I spoke with Ky today on the phone twice about the screens and the mortar repair.
I am okay with the screens on the cast iron grates being installed form the outside. You can override
me and say they have to be from the inside if you want. He has proposed putting ¼ in welded wire
mesh fabric on them. He also said that he would paint them if he needed to so that they would blend
more.
Ky wanted to put some QuickCrete mortar repair that comes in a tube to repoint the brick. I talked to
“the technical guy at AHPP” and he believes that this is a short term fix that will not last very long. He
suggests just going with the Type N mortar that is available at Darragh and do the job right the first
time.
I just broke the news to Ky and he was not enthused, but the repair work should not be a temporary
fix.
