The DOT funded a wonderful Safe Routes to School Grant to Forest Park and now this? We have to do better in our community to get these kids walking and biking to school again! Parents aren't going to send kids across a widened University Ave, no matter how many traffic signs. Is this really progress? Please think about it. Ave. south of Cantrell. It goes to the full city board on August 4th. There is no safe way to get kids and bikes across Univ now ... much less when the work is done. I have proposed to him that the neighborhood and Forest Park rally to help the Lenon neighborhood obtain: ■ Traffic calming cross walk and flashing lights during school hours at top of hill to side walk in front of Prospect building.... it seems to me that you can't cross safely at Univ. and Cantrell and you can't make them cross at the bottom of the hill and mountain climb through the apartment complex... although traffic planners hate mid block crossing areas. 7/17/2008 Page 2 of 2 ■ Place "share the road" and "watch for kids" signs along the street between Prospect Building corner and Forest Park safe routes to school improvements They make this huge investment in safe routes money and then make it harder for kids to use it on the west side of University... go figure. Give me some feedback and I will get Bryan Day to help figure this out. Martha, you and Kelly could really bring clout due to the school's Safe Routes success.
