SUBJECT: Rezoning at Birchwood and Shackleford Road
DATE: March 10, 1992
The POD rezoning request by David Jones for the corner of Birchwood and
Shackleford Road has been deferred to the Planning Commission on April the 7th. The
applicant has run into a major problem because the property is located in the floodplain
and will have to be raised approximately six feet.
The rezoning request involves the removal of two houses and replacing there with a
medical office building. Before the discovery of the floodplain issue, the design
seemed to be in keeping with the residential character of the neighborhood. However,
the filling of the lot and placing of the building will now not blend with the residential
character of the adjoining properties.
I have discussed my concerns with Mr. Jones and it is not clear to me whether he is
going to proceed with the application or withdraw. We have received many postcards
and phone calls in opposition to the project.
