an Existing Educational Building
For
THE FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH
714 Rock Street
Little Rock, Arkansas
Outline materials and methods specifications for the exterior
renovation. Revised - 5 August 1981
A. DEMOLITION
1. Complete removal of the existing exterior, deteriorated,
sand pressed brick masonry to the foundation line.
2. Remove the existing wood windows, doors, and supporting
framing.
3. Remove the existing concrete front entry steps both to
the main level and those going to the basement.
4. Remove the existing flag pole and steel fire excape
step6 on the front and rear elevations of the building
that were installed during the periost that the building
was used as an elementary school educational facility.
B. RE -CONSTRUCTION
1. Install a cast stone base wainscots matching, approximately,
in elevation with the cast stone base wainscote on the
neighboring church structure.
2. Re -bricking from the wainscote base to the cornice line
with brick that matches the brick on the neighboring
church and parsonage buildings. The style and methods
will match the existing masonry as reflected in the
accompanying drawings.
3. The windows that have been removed, Item A-2 above, will be
refininshed and replaced in the locations from which they
were removed using the same brick mould and other trim that
is found to be sound. Deteriorated wood trim and structural
members will be replaced with new material with like profile.
Double glazing is tentatively planned to be installed on the
inside surface of the windows. Two (2) windows on the second
level, south side, are to be deleted and two (2) windows,
both levels, on the north side of the building, are to be
deleted to accommodate the fellowship hall kitchen installation.
4. A two level entry court, or plaza, will be constructed to
facilitate entry to the fellowship hall level. This area is
to be partially paved leaving planting areas and the ground
level portion is to be delineated from the sidewalk and

street activity by a low matching brick wall with openings
as required by circulation.
5. The roof has been replaced and will not require additional
work except for new plumbing vents, attic exhaust ventilators,
range hood exhaust fan, etc., as may be required by interior
toilet area revisions, etc.
6. Because of deterioration, beginning to become serious, in
marry of the exposed rafter tails, we have elected to box in
the roof cornice to match the neighboring church and parsonage.
Secondly, to achieve adequate attic ventilation and rather
than punching holes in the freeze next to the roof deck, we
intend to remove the frieze above the box soffit and install
a three inch (3") continuous wire—soreened ventilation strip
in the box soffit.
7. Our sincere intention is to construct the building in accordance with
drawings submitted.
