Anne Guthrie, Historic Preservation Administrator DATE: 30 October 2001 SUBJECT: Permit for 815 Sherman Street, St. Edwards Church This memo serves as administrative approval from the Little Rock Historic District Commission (LRHDC) allowing the contractor of St. Edward's Church, 815 Sherman Street permission to obtain a rehabilitation permit. While I understand the proposed work includes interior work, the exterior work is to bring the west (main entrance) and the south entrance (handicapped ramp) into ADA compliance. Since the structure is located within the MacArthur Park Historic District, exterior work comes under the LRHDC's jurisdiction. Routine maintenance and ADA regulatory work is allowed within the local ordinance historic district with administrative approval. The repairs are not: altering the footprint of the historic structure or the roof slope; introducing new architectural detailing or materials; and are maintaining the existing shape, configuration, details, profile and materials sympathetic to the original. Also, I have reviewed the proposed work changes with the architect and contractor. As such, and meeting all city, building and health regulations, the application for a permit should be approved. If exterior changes or improvements are made that require a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA), staff will be notified and appropriate actions taken for a public hearing. Refer to the application instructions or the Design Review Guidelines: MacArthur Park Historic District for necessity of obtaining a COA. 0
