Attachment 'B' PROJECT DESCRIPTION A St . Edwards School intends to renovate the existing structure on the southwest corn(_r of Ferry and Eighth Street (800 Ferry) to provide Kindergarten and possible First Grade Facilities to complement the existing school. This project consist of extensive interior renovation and minor exterior repairs and painting with the addition of wood construction ramps to provide for a new main entrance into existing school parking area and to make the building handicapped accessible. The removal of a detached structure approximately 18 feet x 24 feet, originally used as a garage to the rear of the main building, will provide for necessary additional outside play area Site improvements will include additional shrubbery and trees in side yards and fencing and surfacing play area in rear yard. B. Tnitial demolition has been delayed, but St . Edwards School needs to begin as soon as possible to insure the completion of the project before the start of the Fall 1988 Semester. Construction will begin immediately upon the approval of The Historic District Commission or May 6th of this year. C. The city block contained within the streets of Eighth, !Ninth, Sherman, and Ferry is occupied totally by St. Edwards School, Church, and related support buildings except for the buildings proposed for change at 800 Ferry. Occupying the block to the north of the building is the old abandonedltramer Elementary School and to the east is the multilevel residential structure know as Quawpaw Towers. D Anticipated impact to the neighborhood will be negligible Site and exterior improvements and the removal of the dilapidated garage structure are anticipated to make a definite enhancement to the area. The change in use of the building will provide for a less mired use of the city block in reference, which will be a positive social impact.
