We will need to have a fence around the generator. It will be at the back of the house and the fence would be barely
visible from the road since most people are focused on the intersection and cars stay parked there 99% of the
time. May we do a black vinyl chain link like the one we have behind our 409 East 6 th Street House. It will look nice.

1. We consider a generator like a ac unit. So, there is not a setback for it. We will not require a public hearing for
it, either. Please set it as far away from the property line as possible. You will need an electrical permit for this.
2. Where is your RPZ valve? What were you thinking about for the cage?
2
3. I will type you up a Certificate of Compliance for the generator and RPZ Cage. You will need this for your
permit.

Brian,
DD&F Consulting Group, located at 521 Rock Street, would like to get a generator installed that will power the business
(see 0199380sby-c-xxx document about the generator). We have had several power outages lately and they last for
hours. This impacts DD&F’s business as you can imagine. Paul Porter came out, inspected the area and provided the
attached PU2797 Kempner House letter to proceed with the project but since it is close to the property line, he
suggested that we work with you to see if we need any approval from the city. Since it will be visible from the street, I
need to call you anyway to see if you have any requirements.
In addition, we had vandals steal an RPZ valve last fall (there were 13+ stolen that evening around town) and I am
concerned about having the valves reinstalled without some type of protective cage. (see attached police report) You
helped us a few years ago with getting cages around our two air units that were vandalized for the copper.
Do you have time in the next few days to let me know what you need from DD&F to help with these requests.
Thank you, Brian.

Hi Sherrie,
Here is the PDF copy of the approval letter. The hard copy should go out later this afternoon with the rest of the mail. It
was a pleasure meeting you and John this afternoon to discuss the placement of the generator behind the building. As I
recommended earlier today, I would ask Brian Minyard about whether or not you will need a variance for the placement
of the generator in close proximity to the property line. I would be surprised if your neighbor to the east objected to it,

but it is always better to make sure the I’s are dotted and the T’s crossed before starting on a project. I am not sure if
the Historic District Commission would need to look at the proposed placement of the generator either, but Brian can
also answer that question for you too. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.
Cheers,
Paul
