Eight Street, Little Rock Dear Mr. Minyard, Per our conversations on the 24th of August, I am enclosing a description of the work for which we are applying for a certificated of appropriateness. My Mother, Dr. Bonar, (the Owner) wishes to relocate an existing one room shed to the side/rear yard of her house at 523 E. 8th Street. This building was built by her father, Ralph Bonar in about 1936 to house his hobby shop. The building was originally constructed to be relocatable to any house my Grandfather rented. It is in the vernacular style of the thirties and we know that it will fit in seamlessly with the historic structures of the MacArthur Historic District. The building itself is over fifty years old, and therefore would qualify as a historic structure. The building is a one story structure measuring 10'-6" wide by 15'-6" long with a single gable roof. The building is raised on pyramidal concrete footings, which are 1'-6" high. The building itself is 8'-6" to the under side of the eaves at the side and 1 l'-6" to the underside of the eaves at the gable. The eaves overhang one foot. On the front it has a half -glazed door and 2'-6" by 2'-4" window. The front and the back of the structure have small square windows into the attic space. On each side the shed has one centered horizontal window approximately 5' long by 2'-4" high. On the back side, the building has a set of double flat paneled doors. The siding is the original galvanized steel "clapboard" siding with flat wood trim. It also has an original goose neck light over the front door. Currently the building is housed at the Pine Bluff Historical Museum. It was donated to them to use in a "living history" exhibit, which they have now decided not to develop, As part of the relocation of the structure, Dr. Bonar will repair the exterior of the trim and glazing and paint the building to match with the existing house at 521/523 E. 8th Street. She will also have the structure re -wired to current code, remove the exterior security bars and provide 1833 ESPLANDE AVENUE NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA 70116 504.905.5595 C D GLASGOW, ARCHITECT below grade concrete footing for the building with strap ties to secure the building to the ground. The building will be used as a storage shed. Attached please find pictures of the building in its current conditions, as well as a sketch of the location of the building on the site. Although, it needs exterior paint and trim work, it is structurally sound. The building will be located at the rear of the side yard, three feet from the side property line, six feet from the rear property line and over seven feet from the nearest edge of the existing house. We will maintain the two drive ways with a parking area at least 20 feet long behind the front edge of the existing house. Thank you for your attention in this matter. If you have any further concerns or are in need of any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me at 504.905.5595 or at 1833 Esplanade Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70116. Dr. Bonar can also be contacted at 907.279.4049 or at 3054 Wentworth Street, Anchorage, Alaska 99508-4343.
