Historic District Commissioners:
Please authorize the destruction and removal of the shed at 1019 Rock. It is a hazard to the entire
neighborhood.
It is falling down and has all the appearances of being an attractive nuisance which may cause harm to curious
passers-by. I understand from neighbors homeless folks were using the structure during winter for shelter and
lighting a fire often. It would take so little to burn down the whole block depending on wind direction. Not so
long ago when fire destroyed the structure at Rock and 11th we were lucky the wind happened to be from the
north or more historic buildings might have been lost.
I am not familiar with how the city charges property owners when it is necessary for code enforcement to take
action because of property neglect. I hope a substantial fine is added to the costs incurred by the city for
demolition, removal, and notification.
