Subject: 1419 Commerce Street
Captain Gray,
Captain McKinney sent me to you. I am the staff person for the MacArthur Park Local Ordinance Historic District
overseen by the Historic District Commission. Recently 1419 Commerce Street burned in the district. The owner,
Cleveland Thomas, visited me in my office and wanted to have the building demolished. He did not want it demolished
until the Fire Department was through with the investigation.
I had Chuck Givens in my office (the building official) state that it was a threat to life safety and welfare.
I wanted to make sure that your investigation was finished or that all evidence was removed from the site before
permission was given to demolish and clean the site. Captain McKinney said that you had already signed the affidavit to
allow it to be demolished. Will you provide me a copy of that? Is it okay of the owner demolishes and cleans the site?
Thank you for your time.
