Well that project did apply for federal tax credits so the National Park Service will have their own opinion as to what is correct. This particular project has been very frustrating to work with. The owners keep trying to sell it and don’t really seem like they want to finish it. H Brian: That’s a tough question, I so rarely have buildings or houses that have metal roofs as tax credit projects, The metal ridge vent in the photo is fairly low profile and doesn’t detract from the roof any worse than when folks use the a ridge vent on an asphalt shingle roof. Adding a new vent like the one in the bottom photo would most likely not get approved. 2 Thanks, Tom Marr Federal and State Tax Credit Coordinator Arkansas Historic Preservation Program a division of the Department of Arkansas Heritage 1100 North Street | Little Rock, AR 72201 email: tom.marr@arkansas.gov office: 501.324.9347 fax: 501.324.9184 ArkansasPreservation.com Facebook | Twitter #AuthenticArkansas #ArkansasPreservation From: Minyard, Brian <BMinyard@littlerock.gov> Sent: Wednesday, September 12, 2018 11:22 AM To: Tom Marr <Tom.Marr@arkansas.gov>; Paul Porter <Paul.Porter@arkansas.gov> Subject: standing seam roofs. Here is a question on replacement standing seam roofs on tax credit projects. New style vents on standing seam roofs as requested by the property owner. Old style vents with seams bent down on ridge. 3 The photo on the bottom was taken in 2007 on an 1870’s house. I don’t know if it was original, but the slumlord that owned it for years never replaced it. So my question is, on a tax credit project, will the roof ridge vent at the top pass muster? The venting is definitely different. Brian Minyard, AICP Urban Designer City of Little Rock 723 West Markham Little Rock, AR 72201 bminyard@littlerock.gov Phone 501-371-4789 Fax 501-399-3435
