Subject:Tonight's Historical Commission Meeting -- 314 E. 6th Street
Brian,
I heard about the item on this afternoon’s agenda at the Historical Commission meeting regarding the requested
awning replacement at 314 E. 6th Street. As a member of the team who developed the neighboring Legion
Village and MacArthur Commons apartments, and helped redevelop Dust Bowl and Fassler Hall – two of
downtown Little Rock’s most vibrant restaurant/retail establishments – directly behind the subject property, I
strongly object to the planning staff’s recommendation to allow for the awning to be finished as proposed by the
applicant.
In fact, I would say that the mansard shingle façade on the building needs to be removed entirely from the
property so it can be restored to its original design. It’s totally out of keeping with the other buildings in the
area, and as such diminishes the overall aesthetics and character of the neighborhood. My hope is that the
planning staff will carefully consider these objections before proceeding with its recommendation to approve
this applicant’s request.
Thanks,
Ray Nolan
