HomeMy WebLinkAboutCBC_02 01 2018The City Beautiful Commission held its regular meeting at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday,
February 01, 2018, at Curran Hall, 615 E. Capitol Avenue. Chairman, BJ Sanders-Woods called
the meeting to order.

Steve Homeyer Ed Peek

MEMBERS ABSENT: Bobby Cushman One Open Position
Chris Hancock
Wally Loveless
Janet Wilson
ALSO PRESENT: Beth Carpenter, City Attorney’s Office
D.Tracy Spillman, Plans Development Administrator, Department
of Planning and Development, City of Little Rock.
APPROVAL OF THE DECEMBER AND JANUARY SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES:
A quorum was not met and no official CBC business was conducted at the regular January
meeting. The December Minutes were not approved at the last regularly scheduled meeting.
Chairman Sanders-Woods entertained a motion to approve the December 2017 Minutes.
Motion: Commissioner Homeyer made a motion that the December 07, 2017 Minutes with and
amended date be approved.
Second: Commissioner Blagg seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Chairman Sanders-Woods entertained a motion to approve the January 11, 2018 Special Meeting
Minutes.
Motion: Commissioner Peek made a motion that the January 11, 2018 Special Meeting Minutes
be approved.
Second: Commissioner Winchester seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
The commissioners then had a general discussion about the minutes taken at the annual retreat
and decided that these would need to be voted on and added to the CBC record.
Motion: Commissioner Winchester made a motion that the January 11, 2018 CBC Retreat
Minutes be approved.
Second: Commissioner Peek seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
TREASURER’S REPORT:
Expense Report:
In the absence of Commissioner Cushman there was no new report.
COMMITTEE REPORTS, UPDATES:
Community Projects
City Hall South Yard:
Commissioner Homeyer stated that there is nothing new to report.
Public Relations
In the absence of Commissioner Hancock there was no new report.
KLRB:
Commissioner Henshaw stated she had attended the KLRB annual retreat. The commissioner also
stated that the March 2018 city wide litter cleanup was discussed at this retreat. She then stated
that a request will be made at the next CBC meeting for commissioners to volunteer at this
upcoming event.
Adopt-A-Street:
In the absence of Commissioner Loveless there was no new report.
Commissioner Homeyer noted that former CBC Commissioner, Nash Abrams had recently passed
away. Commissioner Homeyer also stated that Mr. Abrams had played a significant part in shaping
both the CBC and KLRB.
Eye of the Beholder:
There was no new report.
Landscape Awards:
Commissioner Homeyer nominated Riggs Tractor located at 9125 I-30 to be included in the 2018
nominees.
T.R.E.E Fund:
Commissioner Homeyer stated that he spoken and coordinated the site preparation for the Bowman
Road T.R.E.E. Fund project with City of Little Rock, Urban Forester, Robbie Hudson.
Commissioner Homeyer also stated that the site has been prepared, tree locations marked, and the
tree supplier contacted.
City Beautiful Exhibit:
In the absence of Commissioner Hancock there was no new report.
NEW BUSINESS:
The commissioners discussed the 2018 Arkansas Flower and Garden Show. It was also noted that
as per the goals of the annual retreat it is desirable that all CBC commissioners make an effort to
attend this event scheduled for March 2-4. In the coming months the commissioners will then
discuss if they would like to provide a CBC presence at the 2019 Arkansas Flower and Garden
Show.
Chairman Sanders-Woods read aloud a thank you note from CBC Retreat facilitator Ms. Julie
Robbins for the gift certificate that was presented to her at the conclusion of the retreat
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
The next regularly scheduled meeting will be Thursday, March 01, 2018, at 11:30 a.m.
ADJOURNMENT:
Motion: Commissioner Peek made a motion to adjourn.
Second: Commissioner Winchester seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
The meeting was adjourned at 12:07 p.m.
