HomeMy WebLinkAboutCBC_09 07 2017The City Beautiful Commission held its regular meeting at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 07, 2017, at City Hall Board Room, 500 W Markham St. Chairman, BJ Sanders-Woods called the meeting to order. MEMBERS PRESENT: BJ Sanders-Woods Wally Loveless Steve Homeyer Ed Peek Starre Haas Carrie Young Melissa Henshaw MEMBERS ABSENT: Bobby Cushman Chris Hancock Janet Wilson Bob Winchester ALSO PRESENT: Beth Carpenter, City Attorney’s Office D.Tracy Spillman, Plans Development Administrator, Department of Planning and Development, City of Little Rock. APPROVAL OF THE AUGUST MINUTES: Chairman Sanders-Woods entertained a motion to approve the previous months minutes. Motion: Commissioner Peek made a motion that the August 03, 2017 Minutes be approved. Second: Commissioner Young seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. TREASURER’S REPORT: Expense Report: Commissioner Young stated as of August 3, 2017 the CBC account has gained $.48 in interest and the balance is now $558.31. COMMITTEE REPORTS, UPDATES: Community Projects City Hall South Yard: Commissioner Homeyer stated that there is nothing new to report. Public Relations In the absence of Commissioner Hancock there was no report. KLRB: Commissioner Henshaw stated that KLRB completed their litter survey for the month of August and also explained how this exercise was prepared. The commissioner also discussed the City’s 311 “App” that was utilized during this survey and encouraged the other commissioners to use this in the future. Adopt-A-Street: Commissioner Loveless stated that the August pickup had been successful. The commissioners then briefly discussed the scope of the area that they have adopted and problem areas that they have encountered. The 311 “App” was discussed again as a tool that should be utilized more for problem areas. Eye of the Beholder: Commissioner Young stated that there had been one new recipient in the last month. Landscape Awards: Commissioner Homeyer explained how the process of choosing the Landscape Awards to the new Commissioners Staff Member Spillman provided a PowerPoint Presentation of the 2017 Landscape Award nominees. The commissioners voted and selected the following properties. Hillcrest Hall 1501 Kavanaugh Blvd Ward 3 Fellowship Bible Church 1401 Kirk Rd Ward 5 Covenant Cove 2700 Romine Rd Ward 6 The commissioner’s then reviewed photos from a previously compiled Parks Department PDF of Little Rock landscape photos for the Landscape Award recipient poster. The commissioners voted and selected photo #13 from the PDF. This photo shows an aerial night view of the state capitol and the City to the west. Commissioner Peek entertained a motion to approve that a maximum of $400.00 to be used for the production of the Landscape Award posters and have them framed. Motion: Commissioner Peek made a motion to appropriate a maximum of $400.00 to be used for the production the Landscape Award posters and framing. Second: Commissioner Loveless seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. T.R.E.E Fund: Commissioner Haas inquired of the other commissioners if the CBC was involved in any city beautification projects. Commissioner Peek noted that the T.R.E.E. Fund and explained briefly how this worked. Commissioner Homeyer further explained this and noted the Bowman Road project as an example of how this fund is utilized. Commissioner Homeyer also provided copies of the T.R.E.E. Fund Maps to the other commissioners and a spread sheet annotating the allotted money for each of the corresponding areas. City Beautiful Exhibit: In the absence of Commissioner Hancock there was no report. NEW BUSINESS: There was no new business. ANOUNCEMENTS: The next meeting will be Thursday, October 07, 2017, at 11:30 am Adopt-A-Street Pickup date will be set at next month’s meeting. ADJOURNMENT: Motion: Commissioner Young made a motion to adjourn. Second: Commissioner Peek seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 12:40 pm.
