HomeMy WebLinkAbout14649 1 RESOLUTION NO. 14,649 2 3 A RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE THE CITY MANAGER TO EXERCISE 4 THE FIRST YEAR OF AN OPTION CLAUSE TO RENEW A CONTRACT 5 FOR GROUP HEALTH INSURANCE WITH UNITED HEALTH CARE 6 FOR AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED THIRTEEN MILLION, FIVE 7 HUNDRED SIXTY-NINE THOUSAND, SIX HUNDRED EIGHTY-NINE 8 AND 28/100 DOLLARS ($13,569,689.28); AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. 9 10 WHEREAS, in Little Rock,Ark.,Resolution No. 14,443 (November 1,2016),the Board of Directors 11 approved entry into a contract with United Health Care to provide Group Health Insurance for City 12 employees, and in that resolution authorized additional one (1)-year extensions of the agreement for a 13 period not to exceed seven(7) additional years; and, 14 WHEREAS, after a competitive selection process the City conducted with Stephens, Inc. -- its 15 Insurance Broker--it was determined that the exercise of the first year of the option to extend this contract 16 was in the best interests of the City; 17 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE 18 CITY OF LITTLE ROCK,ARKANSAS: 19 Section 1. The City Manager is authorized to execute a one (1)-year extension of the Group Health 20 Insurance Contract between the City and United Health Care for a period of one(1)-year in an amount not 21 to exceed Thirteen Million, Five Hundred Sixty-Nine Thousand, Six Hundred Eighty-Nine and 28/100 22 Dollars($13,569.689.28), for the period January 1,2018,to December 31,2018,for the Basic Plan,and to 23 share some of the dependent coverage with the employee,to make available a Buy-Up Plan for employees 24 who wish additional coverage, and to allow for an increase of 150 City employees. 25 Section 2. Funds for this agreement will be available from a line item for Group Health Care Insurance 26 in the 2018 Budget. 27 Section 3. This is the second year of the agreement with United Health Care,the exercise of the first 28 option year,which leaves a maximum of six(6)additional years on the contract initially approved in Little 29 Rock,Ark.,Resolution No. 14,443 (November 1, 2016). 30 Section 4. Severability. In the event any title, section, paragraph, item, sentence, clause, phrase, or 31 word of this resolution is declared or adjudged to be invalid or unconstitutional, such declaration or 32 adjudication shall not affect the remaining portions of the resolution which shall remain in full force and [Page 1 of 2] 1 effect as if the portion so declared or adjudged invalid or unconstitutional were not originally a part of the 2 resolution. 3 Section 5. Repealer. All laws, ordinances,resolutions,or parts of the same,that are inconsistent with 4 the provisions of this resolution, are hereby repealed to the extent of such inconsistency particularly 5 including,but not limited to,Little Rock,Ark.,Resolution No. 14,443 (November 1,2016). 6 ADOP I: October 2,2017 7 • 1 10 8 NO�.'
