3 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 8 OF THE REVISED CODE OF
4 ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS, TO
5 PROVIDE FOR THE ADOPTION BY REFERENCE OF THE 2017
6 NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

8 WHEREAS, Little Rock, Arkansas Rev. Code 8-2(A)(8) adopts by reference the 2017 Edition of the
9 National Electrical Code,
10 WHEREAS,adoption of the 2017 Edition of the National Electrical Code would bring the City up-to-
11 date with the most current code and would protect the public health, safety and welfare of Little Rock
12 citizens; and,
13 WHEREAS,the City complied with the requirements of Arkansas Code Ann. §14-55-207 (1987)by
14 publishing notice of intent to adopt the 2017 Edition of the National Electrical Code by reference in a paper
15 of general circulation within the municipality, and by providing three (3) copies of the code for public
16 inspection in the City Clerk's Office; and,
17 WHEREAS, passage of this ordinance is necessary to update the City Code and authorize the use of
18 the 2017 Edition within the City.
19 NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY
20 OF LITTLE ROCK,ARKANSAS:
21 Section 1.The 2017 Edition of the National Electrical Code is hereby adopted by reference,and Little
22 Rock,Arkansas Rev. Code Section 8-2(A)(8) is hereby amended to read as follows:
23 (8)The 2017 National Electrical Code.
24 Section 2. Code Application. Permits obtained prior to the effective date of this ordinance will be
25 enforced under the previous adopted code until final disposition of the permit.
26 Section 3.Repealer. All ordinances, or parts of ordinances, in conflict with this provision, including
27 but not limited to relevant sections of Little Rock Ordinance No. 20,971 (December 16, 2014), are hereby
28 repealed to the extent of such conflict.
29 Section 4. Severability. In the event any title, section, paragraph, item, sentence, clause, phrase, or
3.0 word of this ordinance is declared or adjudge to be invalid or unconstitutional, such declaration or
31 adjudication shall not affect the remaining portions of this ordinance, which shall remain in full force and
32 effect as if the portion so declared or adjudged invalid or unconstitutional was not originally a part of this
33 ordinance.

1 Section 6.The effective date of this ordinance shall be January 1,2018.
