HomeMy WebLinkAbout13883 1 RESOLUTION NO. 13,883 2 3 A RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER 4 INTO A CONTRACT WITH METRO DISASTER SPECIALISTS FOR 5 CLEANING AND RESTORATION SERVICES AT THE JIM DAILEY 6 FITNESS AND AQUATIC CENTER, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED 7 THREE HUNDRED FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS ($350,000.00); AND 8 FOR OTHER PURPOSES. 9 10 WHEREAS, during the early morning hours of April 21, 2014, the Little Rock Fire Department was 11 called to extinguish a small fire at the Jim Dailey Fitness and Aquatic Center; and, 12 WHEREAS, following the fire, the facility was immediately closed and emergency steps taken to re- 13 open the center as quickly as possible; and, 14 WHEREAS, as part of emergency actions taken, the City's insurance carrier, Bancorp South, was 15 contacted and approval was obtained to begin repairs immediately; and, 16 WHEREAS, Metro Disaster Services, a company that specializes in disaster restoration and which is 17 on the State of Arkansas Cooperative Contract List, was contacted to begin cleaning and restoration 18 process; and, 19 WHEREAS,the final cost of the repair and restoration services cannot be ascertained due to the fact 20 that there are additional repairs that may be required as progress on the work continues; and, 21 WHEREAS, the best estimate of the cost of repairs is approximately Three Hundred Thousand 22 Dollars($300,000.00); and, 23 WHEREAS, it is prudent to allow for an additional amount not to exceed Three Hundred Fifty 24 Thousand Dollars($350,000.00),to allow a contingency for possible additional repairs; and, 25 WHERAS, the City's financial responsibility is the amount of the deductible stated in the insurance 26 policy, Twenty-Five Thousand Dollars($25,000.00); and, 27 WHEREAS, the Jim Dailey Fitness and Aquatic Center is a very popular venue and heavily 28 patronized by individuals from all ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds, and patrons have voiced 29 desire to have the center reopened and functioning as soon as possible. 30 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY 31 OF LITTLE ROCK,ARKANSAS: 32 Section 1. The Board of Directors hereby authorizes the City Manager to enter into a contract with 33 Metro Builders and Restoration Specialists, Inc. for cleaning and restoration services at the Jim Dailey IPage 1 of 2I 1 Fitness and Aquatic Center, in an amount not to exceed Three Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollars 2 ($350,000.00), Twenty-Five Thousand Dollars ($25,000.00) of which is the City's responsibility as the 3 amount of the deductible. 4 Section 2: Funding is available from insurance proceeds and the General Fund. 5 Section 2. Severability. In the event any title, section, paragraph, item, sentence, clause, phrase, or 6 word of this resolution is declared or adjudged to be invalid or unconstitutional, such declaration or 7 adjudication shall not affect the remaining portions of the resolution which shall remain in full force and 8 effect as if the portion so declared or adjudged invalid or unconstitutional were not originally a part of the 9 resolution. 10 Section 4. Repealer.
